Job Description

Background of the project

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises. It helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. We address the immediate, life-saving needs of conflict-affected people in an emergency and the reconstruction needs in post-conflict societies.

The IRC delivers education programs in over 20 conflict-affected or post-conflict countries around the world. The IRC strives to help children and youth gain valuable skills through formal and non-formal learning activities that lead to tangible improvement in literacy, numeracy, social-emotional learning and marketable skills, and promotes the protection and psychosocial well-being of conflict-affected children and youth.

IRC in Colombia is supporting Venezuelans staying in the country; the vast majority have been affected by hyperinflation, the collapse of salaries, scarcity of food and medicine, lack of health and education services, and the deterioration of other basic infrastructure, including water and sanitation, electricity, and public transportation. Parents and caregivers are under enormous stress to meet their children’s basic needs, which often means playful parenting is lower on the list of parental priorities.

Over the past two years, IRC Colombia has developed an innovative model for promoting learning and social cohesion for Venezuelan migrant caregivers, their young children, with their host communities. After implementing this model with its many components—including both remote and in-person modalities—we are now in a phase of program synthesis and storytelling for the final reporting of all that was achieved and learned.
