UNICEF China and its government partners work to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children. Every child has the right to survive, develop, be protected and participate in family and society. UNICEF collaborates with many partners to help make those rights a reality in China.

UNICEF China has many different audiences it needs to reach with accurate, simple and in a creative way to explain why its work for children is important and what it does. To support in this, we need additional resources to produce simple information products to be used in presentation, on the internet, for adaption in social media and for advocacy campaigns.

Purpose of Expression of Interests (EOI)

We are calling for expression of interests from freelance graphic designers to join our roster for designers of UNICEF China, who can produce infographics and do basic design work for advocacy and campaign products. They will work on specific assignments as needed. This will include the following:

  1. Laying out documents
  2. Creating infographics
  3. Doing Chinese versions of UNICEF Global reports based on our global layout and design

    Major Tasks, Deliverables & Timeframe:

The designers selected in the roster will be notified when there are specific assignments occur. They can express their interests and be selected based on specific programme needs and demands. They will be paid as per days worked.

The tasks may include the following:

  • To create a design concept based on the specific campaign or programmatic need.
  • Layout word documents and design according to UNICEF global standards.
  • Create infographics related to key information and statistics
  • Create design elements linked to specific campaigns using image and text.

Complete submission of deliverables as per expected standard and quality as assessed by the supervisor is a prerequisite for payment of fee. UNICEF reserves the right to adjust or withhold payments for late deliverables or for deliverables not meeting expected quality.

Methodology & Expected Output:

The designers will work mainly from home and use their own materials and equipment, computer, office space, telecommunication facilities. From time-to-time, in-office access to UNICEF desktop computer will be required to download raw and completed media files.

UNICEF shall be entitled to all intellectual property and other proprietary rights including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to documents and other materials which bear a direct relation to or are prepared or collected in consequence or in the course of the execution of this contract. At UNICEF’s request, the Contractor shall take all necessary steps, execute all necessary documents and generally assist in securing such proprietary rights and transferring them to the UNICEF in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Proven experience in design work and creating infographics

  • Track record in understanding and producing content for NGOS and UN agencies on development issues a plus.
  • Ability to unpack information and work with UNICEF China to conceptualize how information should be packaged.
  • Ability to create infographics based on facts and graphs and explain information in an interesting and creative way.
  • Ability to produce a Chinese version of these elements that can be used in China
  • Have knowledge of latest graphic design trends and high end software for generating creative content
  • Ability to produce content in English as well as Chinese

The selected designers will be put on a roster and be contracted based on the programme needs.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

You are expected to provide samples of your artwork in your application, submit your CV and application letter and provide your finance proposal/quotation.
