Purpose of the Consultancy

This consultancy is intended to develop a roster of AMR surveillance consultants to be ready to provide technical advice to EMR countries in assessment, development and strengthening of national and facility level AMR surveillance systems and programmes.

Background

WHO has developed the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS) as a global platform to promote and support standardized antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance worldwide. The overall goal of GLASS is to enable standardized, comparable and validated data on AMR to be collected, analysed and shared with all countries and partners. Many countries do not have national capacities to collect, aggregate, analyse, or prepare reports of their national AMR data. In this regard, AMR/IPC Unit will establish a roster of AMR surveillance consultants to be ready to assist EMR countries to improve AMR surveillance and develop national teams’ capacity for data management and analysis.

Planned timelines (consultants will be selected from the roster to conduct one or more of the below outputs and activities for EMR countries, subject to availability of funds and further confirmation)

Start date: 01 March 2022

End date: 31 December 2023

Work to be performed

Output 1: Conduct country briefings on how to establish/enhance/monitor national AMR surveillance programmes.

support to national teams to be able to collect, prepare, compile, analyse and report AMR data at both surveillance sites and national levels.

Deliverable 1.1: participate in training on AMR surveillance methods and data management workshops.

Deliverable 1.2: support countries to design data collection tools, conduct data analysis, and prepare country report on AMR.

Deliverable 1.3: prepare a consolidated and comprehensive report on AMR surveillance for feedback in the selected countries and propose options to improve.

Output 2: Brief countries on how to prepare, aggregate and upload validated AMR data to GLASS during the data call in line with GLASS specifications.

Deliverable 2.1. Participate in training national focal points on WHONET and Backlink required for reporting data to GLASS.

Deliverable 2.2. provide technical support to national GLASS focal points, to prepare, aggregate, and validate GLASS files.

Output 3: Contribute to any AMR surveillance studies such as the attributable mortality due to bloodstream infections.

Deliverable 3.1: Participate in supporting countries implement special projects launched by HQ in providing training and data management capacities.

- Qualifications required:

University degree in medicine, pharmacy, public health or equivalent

- Experience required:

- Up to five years of experience in dealing with AMR surveillance and managing AMR data and GLASS data files.

Skills / Technical skills and knowledge:

- Good communication skills and report writing.

- Good knowledge of WHONET, EXCEL or other data set software.

- Language requirements:

Excellent knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is preferable

Location:

CAIRO, EGYPT

Medical clearance : The selected Consultant will be expected to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work.

Travel (If travel is involved, a medical certificate of fitness for work will be required.) All travel arrangements will be made by WHO – WHO will not be responsible for tickets purchased by the Consultant without the express, prior authorization of WHO. While on mission under the terms of this consultancy, the Consultant will receive subsistence allowance. Visas requirements: it is the consultant’s responsibility to fulfil visa requirements and ask for visa support letter(s) if needed.
