**OVERVIEW** Parent Sector : Field Office Duty Station: Hanoi Job Family: Programme Coordination Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 03-Nov-2020 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** \* Duration of the contract: 6 months (November 2020 – May 2021) **A.** **Background and context:** In early 2020, during the elaboration of the current UNESCO Country Strategy in Viet Nam, UNESCO Viet Nam was requested by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, specifically the Viet Nam Sports Administration, to scale up its activities in the area of sport development. Outreach undertaken since this time has revealed the potential scope of partnerships to be significant and, in this regard, UNESCO Hanoi is seeking a consultant who will elaborate the Organization’s initial actions with a view to fund mobilization and partnership. Long Description **B**. **Work assignment:** Under the responsibility and direct supervision of the Head of Office, and in close collaboration with the Regional SHS Advisor, the consultant will design and develop new UNESCO initiatives related to sport for development programming in Viet Nam and the Asia-Pacific region with a view to the objectives of the Kazan Action Plan. In Viet Nam, these responsibilities will include: 1\. Actively seek new partnerships with relevant regional and national stakeholders, including concerned ministries, development partners, UN agencies and the private sector, with a focus on fund mobilization from the latter; 2\. Building on the achievements of the Organization’s ongoing We are Able programme supporting education for ethnic minority youth, develop a concept note to improve access, retention, and employability of ethnic minority girls in Vietnamese schools (lower secondary level, in Ha Giang, Soc Tran and Ninh Tuan provinces) through the implementation of the UNESCO Values Education through Sport toolkit. 3\. In collaboration with IOM, Develop a Migration Reintegration through Sport concept to raise awareness of the dangers of human trafficking in Viet Nam and promote reintegration of victims through sport activities. 4\. Develop the Women’s Sport for Good concept centres around the empowerment of young women and girls to use sports to break down gendered barriers and have a positive impact in their communities. 5\. Using sports activities as a platform, develop a concept note to raise awareness on the increased risks of violence against children and women in Viet Nam and community mobilization to end violence; 6\. Building on UNESCO Headquarters work in this area, develop a proposal to enhance physical fitness in school-aged children through active transport and mainstreaming physical activity and physical education within the school curricula; 7\. Produce mapping of sustainable opportunities for sport for development activities in Viet Nam; 8\. Contribute to related regional funding efforts in close consultation with the Regional Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Advisor (UNESCO Bangkok); 9\. Support the development of related communication outputs as might be necessary in support of the above for UNESCO social media platforms and undertake any other relevant tasks as may be necessary. Long Description **C. Key deliverables** 1\. Concept note for Sports for Development initiative in ethnic minority areas developed; 2\. A Migration Reintegration through Sport concept note developed in partnership with IOM; 3\. A Women’s Sport for Good concept developed; 4\. In partnership with UNICEF, proposal to use sports activities to mobilize communities to tackle violence against children elaborated; 5\. Develop the Healthy Schools concept note in partnership with WHO. 6\. Mapping of other potential opportunities for Sports for Development resource mobilization in Viet Nam undertaken.
