Overview

Install and manage Oracle database systems.

You have:

• A university degree from an accredited educational institution in information technology, information management, information systems, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, business administration, management, or other related disciplines.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in Database Administration, preferably with Open Source-based DB technology components, primarily PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, MongoDB.
• Experience in Database Administration
• Experience in Database backup and recovery
• Experience in Database high availability
• Good communication and collaboration skills and a good level of spoken/written English language
• Willingness to learn on the job and adjust roles as required
• Fluent in spoken and written English.

Expected duration 6 to 11 months

Duties and Responsibilities- Installing and upgrading the Oracle server and application tools in UNICC - Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system - Creating primary database storage structures (tablespaces) after application developers have designed an application - Creating primary objects (tables, views, indexes) once application developers have designed an application - Modifying UNICC database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers - Enrolling users and maintaining system security - Ensuring compliance with UNICC Oracle license agreement - Controlling and monitoring user access to the database - Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database - Planning for backup and recovery of database information - Maintaining archived data on tape - Backing up and restoring the database - Contacting Oracle Corporation for technical support - Perform other duties as may be required.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications:

A university degree from an accredited educational institution in information technology, information management, Information systems, computer science, computer engineering, Software engineering, Business Administration, Management, or other related disciplines;

Experience:

- A minimum of 7 years of experience in Database Administration, preferably currently running versions of Open Source-based DB technology components (database, application, etc.), primarily PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, MongoDB. Any experience in Oracle database administration is welcome.

The resource MUST have the following experience: - Experience in Database Administration - Experience in Database backup and recovery - Experience in Database high availability

The resource SHOULD have the experience in: - Incident, change, and problem management.

Desirable certifications: - Any certifications related to Database Administration

Competencies:

- Willingness to learn on the job and adjust roles as required - Good communication and collaboration skills and a good level of spoken/written English language - Support in a diverse workplace - Regular documentation & reporting - Creativity/ ability to find innovative solutions

Skills:

- Good analytical skills

Language:

- Fluent in spoken and written English.

Conditions of Contract:

- The duration of the consultancy is 3 to 11 months, extendable according to performance and availability of funds. - Remuneration for this consultancy will be 1,800 USD and depend on the qualifications and relevant experience. - The incumbent can be in any UNRWA field of operations (Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, or West Bank).

Additional Information UNRWA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNICC to enhance livelihood and human development opportunities for Palestine refugees in Gaza. By this new collaboration, UNRWA becomes a provider of Information Management and Technology services and capacity augmentation to UNICC technical team on a cost-recovery basis through IMTD/IT Service Center (ITSC) in HQ-Gaza.

UNRWA Information Management and Technology Department (IMTD) is seeking an Oracle Database Administrator to be part of DBA team which currently has 6 members spread across various locations (Valencia, Geneva, New York, Nearshore, Offshore).

The consultant will report administratively to the Head Information Technology Service Centre at Headquarters Gaza and report technically to United Nations International Computing Center (UNICC).
