Provide technical support for the ESCWA-UNRSF project on road safety.

You have:

  • A master’s degree in management of road safety, engineering, technology or related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the field of road safety is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of road safety data management tools and applications, familiarity with the Safe System approach and international road safety standards is required.
  • Proven experience in drafting technical reports or guidelines is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Previous experience working in or with countries of the Arab region is desirable.

Result of Service

Objective of this assignment: The consultant will be responsible for providing technical support in the implementation of the ESCWA-UNRSF project, with a specific focus on strengthening the capacity of Member States in road crash data collection, processing, and analysis. Output The Consultant will be responsible for providing the deliverables below: Deliverable 1: Holistic Guidelines on the Project. Comprehensive guidelines on the project, covering its scope, objectives, and key outputs. Deliverable 2: Final technical report on the project and contribute to the final regional workshop. Additional tasks to support staff on different matters with the project implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background: ESCWA is implementing a UNRSF-funded project on "Strengthening evidence-based interventions for road safety in the Arab region through effective and reliable data recording, processing, and analysis." This project aims to strengthen the technical capacities of Arab countries to establish effective and sustainable evidence-based policymaking for road safety through: a). The establishment of common and standardized processes, methods, and tools for efficient recording, processing, and analysis of disaggregated data on road crash fatalities and injuries in the Arab region. b). Provide adequate training, capacity building, and technical assistance to ESCWA Member States through the exchange of experiences and lessons learned between three pilot countries representing the geographic diversity of the region (Tunisia in North Africa, Lebanon in the Mashreq, and Qatar as self-financing). Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language at ESCWA. For this position, Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
