Overview

Carry out research and develop methodology for global stocktake of early warning systems.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree in relevant fields or a first-level degree with additional experience.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in policy analysis for resilience in developing countries.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis in disaster risk reduction.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting consultations and assessments in disaster risk reduction.
  • Experience in early warning systems is an advantage.

Expected duration 3 Months

Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Head of UNDRR Office in Bonn, and in close liaison with the EW4All Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group, the consultant will carry out the following tasks: 1. Conduct desk research and design the methodology for a global stocktake of early warning systems within the purview of Early Warnings for All initiative. 2. Develop a plan of analysis and identify key data sources for the report. 3. Draft the narrative based on data analyses and outline provided by UNDRR, WMO and partner organisations. 4. Incorporate inputs and comments on subsequent drafts and finalize the document for editing and graphic design (editing and design are not part of this consultancy)

Qualifications/special skills - Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international or development economics, Geography, Economics, other social sciences, Disaster Risk Management, Environment, or other related disciplines. A first-level university degree in any of these fields, in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - A minimum of ten years of experience in policy analysis for resilience in the context of developing countries is desirable - Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis, conducting consultations and assessments in the field of disaster risk reduction within international capacity development and technical cooperation projects. - Experience in early warning systems is an advantage.
