Background

The World Health Organization's Regional Programme of Violence Injury and Prevention (VIP), Department of Health Protection and Promotion, EMRO, is responsible for providing technical support for the work on violence prevention and control including GBV and VaC implemented by national counterpart at country level in full consultation with WHO Country Offices. Currently EMRO provides support to 9 countries in emergencies and their neighboring countries on GBV, while ensuring appropriate linkages and connection with the work on VaC: Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, while other countries may be included as needed. Activities in these countries are supported by a regional Technical Officer and GBV/VaC focal points in WHO Country Offices. WHO is committed to scale up its response to GBV and VaC and increase organizational capacity on strengthening the health sector response to preventing and responding to these types of violence in emergency and non-emergency settings.
