You have:
- First-level degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in arts/graphic design/illustration/publishing or related field is required.
- A technical diploma in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the first-level degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of working experience in graphic design and illustration work for high quality publications and information material is required.
- Significant experience in the international arena is desirable.
- Experience in the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is desirable.
- Skills in graphic design and editorial design are required.
- Proven ability to write clearly and concisely in English is required.
- Experience or knowledge in the field of communication is desirable.
- Experience in logo production is desirable.
- Skills and experience in video production and editing are desirable.
- Fluency in oral and written English is required.
- Knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities
ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. At the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, world leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for 'sustainable development'. The Convention on Biological Diversity was opened for signature in Rio in 1992. The Convention has three main objectives: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal and is administered by the United Nations Environment Programme. Its main tasks are to arrange for and service meetings of the Conference of the Parties, including preparation of pertinent documentation, operation of the central node of the clearing-house mechanism, liaison and coordination with other international bodies and processes and, in close collaboration with these partners, the provision of technical support for the effective implementation of the Convention. The consultant will work under the supervision of and report to the Programme Management Officer, and work in close consultation with the Communication and Advocacy Unit to ensure alignment with CBD corporate guidelines for web content and also the KMGBF Branding Toolkit. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the consultant will perform the following duties: • Design and layout publications, logos, webpages and other communications collaterals including but not limited to: books; technical reports; training materials; magazines; online publications; and technical brochures, presentations; • Transform data sets, ideas and concepts into cutting edge and accessible animated, interactive or static infographics and/or illustrations to be used in publications and web; • Create logo for the initiatives; • Develop engaging and feature-rich webpage designs or mobile apps layouts; • Consult with author departments to validate production, clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors, and ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policies and practice. • These shall be developed in line with an agreed-upon timeline and in coordination with the communications strategy of the Secretariat, as well as relevant guidelines (e.g., branding guidelines).

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of working experience in graphic design and illustration work for high quality publications and information material is required. Significant experience in the international arena is desirable. Experience in the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is desirable. Ability to adapt quickly and work closely with editors and reviewers at all levels is desirable. Skills: - Skills in graphic design and editorial design are required. - Proven ability to write clearly and concisely in English is required. - Experience or knowledge in the field of communication is desirable. - Experience in logo production is desirable. - Skills and experience in video production and editing are desirable. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
