Duties and Responsibilities Background of the assignment: One of the main purposes of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) is to promote, facilitate and support international cooperation and technical assistance in the prevention of and the fight against corruption, including in asset recovery. The Conference of the States Parties to the Convention has repeatedly called for enhanced measures to further promote, facilitate and support international cooperation and technical assistance in the prevention of and fight against corruption, and has requested UNODC to provide, in its programmes of technical assistance, measures to enhance the effectiveness of international cooperation, including in relation to offences covered by the Convention, before seeking mutual legal assistance. Recognizing the importance of international cooperation during times of emergencies and crisis, the Conference of the States Parties to the UNCAC adopted resolution 9/1, the Sharm el-Sheikh declaration on strengthening international cooperation in the prevention of and fight against corruption during times of emergencies and crisis response and recovery, during its ninth session held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from 13 through 17 December 2021. The Conference called on the open-ended intergovernmental expert meeting to enhance international cooperation (EMIC) to collect and analyse, with the support of UNODC, information provided by States parties on a voluntary basis on best practices and challenges concerning international cooperation in combating corruption during times of emergencies and crisis response and recovery, with a view to developing non-binding guidelines for strengthening international and multilateral cooperation to further prevent, identify, investigate and prosecute corruption during times of emergencies and crisis response and recovery.

Qualifications/special skills - An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, criminology, international relations, political science, other social sciences or a related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of anti-corruption is required. ;- Professional experience in conducting legal research and drafting, reviewing, and editing of technical/academic studies such as background papers,]policy studies or academic publications is required. - Professional knowledge of and experience with issues related to international cooperation against corruption and/or prevention of corruption in emergencies is desirable. - Knowledge of crime prevention and criminal justice issues is desirable.

Languages - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, oral and written fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
