You have:

• Advanced degree in information and library sciences, media studies, communication, or social sciences
• At least 7 years of experience in information and library sciences or media studies
• Tracked-records of quality research in media and information
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Previous experiences in MIL related activities or research are desirable
• Very good knowledge of MIL policy formulation is desirable
• Very Good knowledge of The Gambia context is desirable

**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Field Office Duty Station: Gambia (the) Job Family: Communication and Information Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 14-MAY-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under its component of the Peace Building Fund project entitled "Young Women and Men as Stakeholders in Ensuring Peaceful Democratic Processes and Advocates for the Prevention of Violence and Hate Speech", a two-year project being implemented by the UN System in The Gambia as a part of the response to such challenges affecting community cohesion, the UNESCO Regional Office for West Africa (Sahel) based in Dakar, is looking for a qualified expert or team of experts to conduct the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) competency gap assessment in The Gambia. The findings of the MIL competency gap assessment will, among other things, inform a capacity building program for young people on Media and Information Literacy skills so they can engage ethically with information and media, mainly social media. Long Description ---------------- **The main tasks for the consultant are to:** - Design and apply appropriate assessment methodology, methods and plan, in line with UNESCO’s MIL Assessment framework; - Conduct a desk research on legal framework, policy documents, research papers, etc. related to MIL in The Gambia; - Liaise with the Ministries in charge of education, information and communication, and youth as well as other stakeholders, such as teachers’ training institutions, youth organizations and CSOs, to gather and analyse inputs on MIL readiness; - Draft a detailed report based on the findings and their critical analysis, with proposition of relevant policy or strategy recommendations, as well as operational actions for MIL development and implementation in The Gambia.
