**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Education Sector (ED) Duty Station: Bangkok Job Family: Education Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Bangkok Time) : 15-Jun-2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- **Background** With the support of the Korean Funds-in-Trust, UNESCO Bangkok Office and Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education has developed a project aimed at advancing global citizenship education (GCED) in the Asia-Pacific region by cultivating the awareness of and capacity for whole-school approach to GCED among teachers and school leaders. The major output of the project will be a Practical Guide for Teachers and School Leaders on Whole-School Approach to GCED and capacity-building trainings based on the Practical Guide for teachers and leaders of the pilot schools in the direct beneficiary countries. The trained teachers and school leaders will be enabled to adopt the whole-school approach to GCED in their school practices and share experiences with their peers. The Practical Guide will be further refined based on the feedback received from multiple stakeholders in the project countries, and its final version will be widely disseminated across and beyond the Asia-Pacific region for reference. Note: The copyrights and ownership of the Practical Guide and all related studies belong to UNESCO. **Scope of the Assignment** --------------------------- Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, the supervision of the Chief of Section for Educational Innovation and Skills Development (EISD), and the direct guidance from the Project Officer, the Consultant will develop Whole-School Approach to GCED: A Practical Guide for Teachers and School Leaders and provide substantial intellectual and technical inputs for the related studies. Specifically, the Consultant shall undertake the following tasks: 1\. Conduct an extensive and in-depth literature review on whole-school approach to GCED and prepare a summary of the literature; 2\. Prepare detailed outlines for 1) the Practical Guide; 2) the national situation analysis on GCED in the project countries; and 3) additional country case studies on whole-school approach to GCED; 3\. Identify and propose 3-4 suitable countries for additional case studies based on research; 4\. Thoroughly review the drafts of all the national situational analyses and additional country case studies, and provide detailed and structured written feedback on each; 5\. Design and conduct research interviews and surveys targeting different stakeholders in the project countries and other countries in the region for the development of the Practical Guide, collect and analyse the results, and properly feed them into the drafting of the Practical Guide; 6\. Draft the Practical Guide and revise the draft according to the feedback received until it fully meets UNESCO’s requirements; 7\. Participate in consultation meetings on the Practical Guide, effectively contribute to the discussions, and synthesize the information and suggestions received into reference for the Practical Guide. Note: The main contributors to the Practical Guide are expected to be able to conduct trainings on the Practical Guide for relevant policy makers, teachers, school leaders and teacher educators in the project countries in 2022 (specific time and modality to be confirmed later). The selected Consultant(s) is also expected to further improve the Practical Guide in 2023 after the piloting process and before it is published. Separate Calls for Consultancy on these tasks will be launched in due course. **Deliverables and Timeframe** ------------------------------ 1\. Summary of a comprehensive literature review on whole-school approach to GCED by 19 July 2021; 2\. Detailed draft outlines for the national situation analysis and additional country case studies by 22 July 2021; 3\. Detailed written feedback on the first drafts of all the national situation analyses and additional country case studies by 20 September 2021; 4\. Detailed written feedback on the second drafts of all the national situation analyses and country case studies by 1 November 2021; 5\. Draft outline for the Practical Guide by 8 November 2021; 6\. First draft of the Practical Guide by 3 January 2022; 7\. Second draft of the Practical Guide by 21 February 2022; 8\. Third draft of the Practical Guide by 11 April 2022; 9\. Further refined draft of the Practical Guide by 2 May 2022. Note: The entire contract should be completed by 16 May 2022. **Payment** ----------- The remuneration for the whole contract depends on the qualifications and experience of the Consultant as well as the proportion of her/his contribution to the Practical Guide (an international expert team may be established to jointly develop this work).
