**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Communication and Information Sector (CI) Duty Station: Hanoi Job Family: Communication and Information Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 22/09/2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- **Background and Context** Leveraging the opportunity provided by the International Day of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, UNESCO Hanoi and the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) of the Vietnam National University (VNU) propose to organize in Viet Nam a webinar to launch and introduce the Handbook for journalists *Reporting on Violence against Women and Girls* to journalism trainers and educators as well as editors and journalists in Viet Nam. The primary objectives of this journalism education activity are: 1) to translate into Vietnamese and launch the Handbook to the journalism education and media sector in Viet Nam; 2) to train the trainers as well as key media professionals in Viet Nam on how to report on violence against women and girls; and 3) to raise public awareness through improved journalism education as well as professional media coverage on violence against women and girls. Further, the launch, the training and the future distribution of the Handbook among media and journalism education partners in Viet Nam will help position UNESCO to develop follow-up activities moving forward. In Viet Nam, violence against women continues as a serious social issue. According to the *National Study on Violence against Women in Viet Nam* supported by UNFPA, nearly 2 out of every 3 women (nearly 63%) experience one or more forms of physical and sexual violence, notwithstanding the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
