Result of Service Module on gender mainstreaming in the criminal justice Trainings for law enforcement and Judicial Officials in Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali

Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Head UNODC Programme Office, the consultant will:Compile all existing UNODC training materials on gender mainstreaming in the criminal justice response;Build on existing UNODC training materials on gender mainstreaming in the criminal justice to develop a module tailored to the Sahelian context;Develop on module on gender mainstreaming in the criminal justice response in the Sahel, which will have to include, as a minimum: A review of existing modules, reports, legal framework, relevant legislations/regulation on gender dimension in the criminal justice response in Burkina Faso, Mali,, Mauritania and Niger.General notions on gender (what is gender? what is a gender mainstreaming approach? Gender stereotypes and bias?)Gender dimension during investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.Gender dimension during imprisonment and other forms of deprivation of liberty. Gender sensitive witness and victim protection measures.Addressing and investigating sexual and gender-based violence.Specific chapter on gender dimension in the criminal justice response to terrorism tailored to the Sahelian context.Specific chapter on gender dimension in the criminal justice response to transnational organized crime tailored to the Sahelian context.Cases-studies from Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger to illustrate how legal concepts have been applied in practice by courts and other bodies.Final evaluation in the form of a test tailored to the Sahelian context.Conduct one regional training-of-trainers for selected law enforcement, judicial officials and civil society organizations from Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania and Niger on gender mainstreaming in criminal justice.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or academic equivalent) in gender studies, women studies, sociology, psychology, political sciences, law, security studies, terrorism studies, international relations, international development, or a related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: - A minimum of five years of demonstrable professional experience in the development of training modules and capacity-building on gender mainstreaming is required. - Excellent knowledge and professional experience on two or more G5 Sahel countries (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger) is required. - Demonstrated expertise in gender equality and gender mainstreaming in the criminal justice is required. - Demonstrable professional experience in providing technical assistance to defense, security forces or judicial sector is required. - Proven experience in conducting capacity-building and programming related gender mainstreaming is required. - Proven experience in conducting gender-related research is desirable. - Work experience with the United Nations or similar international organization, with a preference for candidates familiar with UNODC, is desirable. - Work experience with diverse stakeholders including governments, policymakers, community leaders and actors, NGOs, practitioners and experts is desirable. - Experience in working independently is desirable. - Proficiency with new technologies is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English and French is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
