Overview

Provide expert advice on lunar governance and support the organization of related conferences.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in either international space law, diplomacy, international relations, or international law.
  • A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least five (5) years working experience in the field of either space law, space diplomacy, and international relations.
  • Multiple advanced degrees and volunteering experience in leadership positions in relevant international and non-governmental organizations may be accepted in lieu of maximum two years of working experience.
  • Excellent, research, verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Advanced, highly specialized knowledge of lunar activities and policies is required.
  • The ability to work independently and as an active member of a team is desirable.
  • Experience with international relations and international organizations is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.

Result of Service

The consultant will provide the following deliverables: A. Expert inputs and advice including draft statements, elements for briefs, analytical notes, and other documentation to support the work of the office, and, as agreed, other lunar related mechanisms. B. Organization of the 2026 UNOOSA Lunar Conference, a final report after the event. C. Implementation plan for UNOOSA’s Intergenerational Dialogue on Space, and expert support for its conduct as co-focal point within the Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will support UNOOSA in developing and executing the One Moon For All project, with a specific focus on (i) providing expert advice to the Office in its role of supporting Member States in advancing their deliberations in ATLAC, the Action Team on Lunar Activities Consultation; (ii) leading on the organisation of UNOOSA’s annual Lunar Conference in close collaboration with the Office of the Director (providing expert inputs on lunar related topics and organising multilateral and multi-stakeholder discussions on critical issues related to the safety and sustainability of lunar activities) and (iii) supporting the Office with the implementation of the Intergenerational Dialogue on Space, launched in September 2025.
