You have:

Purpose of consultancy

The purpose of this consultancy is to provide English-language copywriting and editing services to the WHO-Yemen Country Office (YCO) for production of engaging multimedia content – including web stories, videos, visibility reports and social media posts – to promotes WHO’s image and impact in Yemen, grow and sustain partnerships, and mobilize resources from donors

Background

Under virtual supervision of the YCO Communications Senior Consultant, the supplier-holder will effectively contribute to ongoing efforts by the YCO Communications Unit to meet donor visibility requirements and deploy compelling English-language digital storytelling that promotes WHO’s image and impact in Yemen and thereby enables resource mobilization. It will contribute to timely production of high-quality, professional photo stories, videos, and other communications products that meet donor visibility requirements and enable fundraising by engagingly communicating the positive, vital impact of WHO programmes in Yemen.

As these duties will be performed on a teleworking basis, and involve meetings with YCO technical teams and donors, preference will be given to candidates who can work during the same hours (GMT/UTC 3h) and days (Sunday through Friday) as the YCO Communications Unit

Deliverables

Output 1: Provide excellent professional English-language copywriting and editing expertise to the WHO-Yemen Communications Team.

Deliverable 1: Assist the team in the production of clearly written, engaging, and impactful content for donors, the public, and news media. These materials will include stories, social media posts, digital reports, video scripts, printed materials, presentations, and press releases.

Deliverable 2: Provide copywriting and editing for key reports produced by the YCO for the UN system such as the annual country report and UN humanitarian updates from the YCO. These reports will gather written inputs from technical teams and organize them into non-complex, compelling narratives, to ensure readability and clarity of language.

Deliverable 3: Update key messages, collecting and organizing information for the production of impactful presentations for WHO donors and partners.

Output 2: Advice, mentor and support the Communications Unit team members for individual learning objectives that strengthen their writing and storytelling that raises visibility for donors and WHO and enables resource mobilization.

Deliverable 2.1: Work with each member of the Communications Unit to develop their story concepts, and to gather, write and package visual and written content from field locations and technical teams that will be consistently readable, engaging and impactful.

Output 3: Support the Communications Team in meeting requests from Headquarters and Regional Offices in a timely fashion.

Deliverable 3.1: Manage requests with the team for urgent reporting of health responses and interventions by the YCO in locations that are

Deliverable 3.2: Prepare updates as requested about disease outbreaks, vaccination campaigns, and deployments of hospital supplies, medicines and equipment to field locations.

Deliverable 3.3: Prepare and coordinate effective messaging to counter misinformation and disinformation that target WHO’s presence and programmes in Yemen.

Qualifications, experience, skills -, and languages

Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, media, marketing, or languages or a related field from an accredited university; Master’s degree desirable.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years prior relevant working experience in the UN system, preferably with WHO.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of WHO’s communication goals, visions, positions, policies, guidelines, and strategies.

  • Visual communications skills are desirable but not required (photography, video, and/or graphic design are desirable

No travel is required for this consultancy

Remuneration and budget (travel costs are excluded):

  • a. Remuneration: level B lowerUSD 7,000/month
