For every child, we care

The China country office is a bilingual office, with majority of staff being national staff. All reports and proposals for an external audience are required to be in English. In light of the high volume of proposals, reports, human interest stories, and other materials for donors or external audiences, a need has been felt to hire the services of a consultant editor.

How can you make a difference?

Key tasks:

  • Copy-edit and format donor reports, associated human interest stories and other types of reports.
  • Copy-edit selected chapters the draft Annual Report of the China Country Office
  • Copy-edit draft donor proposals or concept notes (as needed)
  • Editing of other country office documents as needed

Key deliverables:

  • All pre-agreed assignments are submitted on-time and with quality (final numbers tbc)-15 days
  • Draft chapters of annual report copy-edited-10 days
  • Draft donor report proposals or concept notes copy-edited-5 days
  • Memos, notes, briefings and presentations edited-30 days

The work will be carried out via email and calls by the consultant from home, no physical presence in the office or travel is required. The tentative start date is July 1, 2023. Consultant will be working with UNICEF for 60 days during 3 years.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, communication or other related area
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English
  • Solid editorial skills with demonstrated ability for logical and analytical writing
  • Prior experience of working for a UNICEF Country Office and familiarity with UNICEF editorial standards will be a key criteria for selection.
  • Previous experience copy-editing donor reports and proposals is highly desirable.
  • Prior work experience in the field of planning and monitoring desirable.
  • Familiarity with international development issues and/or issues concerning children desirable

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
