Under the guidance of the Accountant, the consultant will review financial transactions in the financial system, to ensure completeness and accuracy of donor reports, and other information released to external stakeholders. S/he will analyze, review and draft interim and final reports to donors on the use of their contributions, in accordance with UNICEF donor reporting policies and donor requirements. The Consultant will also prepare consolidated reports and summaries as required, analyze and prepare files for periodic closure.

This opportunity is for four months with a possible extension to six months. It is a remote assignment and the consultant will be able to work from home with possible face-to-face meetings in the office if feasible.

How can you make a difference?

Key responsibilities

  1. Analyze, review and draft interim and final statements to donors on the use of their Other Resources (OR) contributions for review by the Accountant. Ensure that reports are complete and accurate and that UNICEF donor reporting guidance and procedures and donor's reporting requirements are complied with. Ensure that expenditures reported to donors are reconciled with the General Ledger. Ensure that recovery costs are calculated and presented correctly. File electronic copies of reports appropriately.
  2. Extract, review and analyze data and information for the preparation of the annual consolidated reports and summaries, ensuring that the financial data presented in the draft report is complete and accurate.
  3. Prepare Journal Vouchers for changing of funding sources for expired grants where requested by Country Offices and agreed by supervisor.
  4. Monitor over-expenditures and review and analyze reasons for overspent balances on expired grants and submit accurate and complete data on overspent and underspent balances on expired grants

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An accounting qualification or A Bachelor’s in Accounting
  • A minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible working experience in accounting
  • Experience in preparing donor statements is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the UN system and experience working with International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS) or International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) highly desirable Knowledge/experience with ERP systems.
  • Experience with SAP is highly desirable. Knowledge of Office Applications, with good knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is considered an asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
