Result of Service The Consultant, Digital Forensics Expert – Trainer, shall to support UNICRI and its Centre for AI and Robotics to develop individual tailored training curricula for identified beneficiary countries as part of the AI for Safer Children initiative, as well as associated training materials to accompany the delivery of training courses, and support UNICRI in the delivery of these training courses to at least 4 national law enforcement agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are:

  • to advance understanding of crime-related problems;
  • to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;
  • to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;
  • to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

In 2019, UNICRI, through its Centre of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, and the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates launched the joint endeavour known as AI for Safer Children. The initiative strives to support law enforcement agencies to tap into the potential of AI and has designed the AI for Safer Children Global Hub – a unique centralized and secure platform for law enforcement agencies – to support them to do so. The Global Hub contains extensive information on AI tools that could be used to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse and provides guidance on how law enforcement can use it in the course of their work in an ethical and human rights compliant manner.

Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, the incumbent will be performing the following tasks:

  • Support the design and development of a training curriculum and associated training materials to be delivered during national training courses offered by UNICRI.
  • Tailor and adapt training curricula in close coordination and cooperation with counterparts in national law enforcement agencies, clarifying technical aspect and addressing queries and concerns raised regarding the nature, scope and focus of the training programme.
  • Lead specific elements of the training programme, delivering lectures, facilitating working sessions, moderating discussions and fielding questions from participants.
  • Participate, as required, in other meetings and event organized by UNICRI within the framework of the AI for Safer Children initiative, including Advisory Board meetings and law enforcement stakeholder meetings.
  • Perform other job-related duties as tasked.

    Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) fields of law, criminology, public administration, political science, international relations or related fields of criminal justice, crime prevention and/or law enforcement is required. A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree. Specialized training diploma obtained from a recognized national police, customs, or other similar institution, including Police or Military Academies, can also be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience working with the development, deployment, management and maintainence of computer hardware and software systems, including at least 5 years of relevant experience in digital forensics is required. Experience developing and delivering training is required. Experience working with law enforcement agencies, preferably in the field of child sexual exploitation and abuse, is highly desirable.

    Languages For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required.
