Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women India is seeking a skilled and experienced Content Lead to oversee the creation, development, and dissemination of high-quality content that effectively communicates the organization's mission, initiatives, and impact.

The Content Lead will play a critical role in shaping UN Women India's brand messaging and ensuring consistency across all communication channels. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, along with a deep understanding of gender equality and women's empowerment issues. They should also be an excellent communicator especially in writing.

The Content Lead will report to the Country Representative in coordination with the Communications Analyst.

Duties and Responsibilities

Content Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive content strategy aligned with UN Women India's objectives, communication strategy, and target audiences;
  • Identify key content themes, messages, and formats to effectively communicate UN Women's mission and impact;
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify content gaps and opportunities, and propose innovative approaches to address them;
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, designers, and writers to create engaging and impactful content.

Content Creation and Management:

  • Oversee the creation of knowledge products, including policy briefs, factsheets, talking points, reports, studies, articles, blog posts, videos, infographics, and social media content;
  • Ensure the production of high-quality, accurate, and engaging content that resonates with target audiences;
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to UN Women India's messaging guidelines;
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure timely delivery and optimised dissemination of content across various platforms.

Brand Messaging and Consistency:

  • Develop and implement a clear brand messaging framework that aligns with UN Women India's values and objectives;
  • Ensure all content adheres to the established brand messaging framework, reinforcing core values and key messages;
  • Provide guidance and support to staff and partners to ensure consistent brand messaging across all communication channels;
  • Monitor and evaluate content performance and make recommendations for improvements to enhance brand visibility and impact.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including programme leads and subject matter experts, to gather insights and knowledge for content creation;
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, such as media outlets, journalists, and influencers, to promote UN Women India's content and initiatives;
  • Develop and maintain strong media contacts to maximize media coverage and reach.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Monitor content performance and engagement metrics regularly, providing reports and insights to inform decision-making and optimization efforts;
  • Conduct periodic reviews and analysis of content strategy, identifying areas for improvement and innovation.

    Other Related Tasks:

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor;

  • Work independently as well as cooperatively with teams to meet deadlines.

Expected Deliverables:

  • Work plan based on agreed upon deliverables.
  • Content Strategy to set the direction on what kind of content should be created and published.
  • Team work plan to oversee and support the team progress, and ensure successful completion within the allocated time and budget.
  • Update content for the UN Women website.
  • Manage and develop content for all social media accounts and growing audiences recorded.
  • Existence of updated briefs and other products.

  • Proficiency in leveraging digital and social media platforms for content dissemination and audience engagement;
  • Excellent written communications skills.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master's degree or Bachelor’s in communications, journalism, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Proven experience of minimum 15 years in content creation, strategy development, and management, preferably in the field of gender equality or women's empowerment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Hindi is required;
  • Working knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.

Evaluation and Selection Criteria

Criteria for shortlisting of CVs will be based on the following assessment:

  • Required Degree and Qualification (5 points);
  • Minimum Experience relevant to the assignment (10 points);
  • Working knowledge and experience of content development on Gender Issues (5 points).

The evaluation process for selection of the candidate will be based on the following assessment:

  • Interview (100 points)

  • For an assignment requiring travel, consultants of 65 years or more require full medical examination and statement of fitness to work prior to engagement in the consultancy.

  • This is a full-time assignment. The consultant is expected to disclose any outside activity and shall not be permitted to take up any outside work during the course of this assignment.

The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
