**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Communication and Information Sector (CI) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Programme Coordination Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 07-FEB-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Long Description ---------------- Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information (ADG/CI), the guidance of the Chief of the Executive Office (CI/EO) and the direct supervision of the Associate Programme Specialists in the Executive Office, the Individual Specialist shall support the CI/EO team to: - Prepare substantive reports, briefings, memos, letters and speeches related to CI programmatic themes in the fields of freedom of expression and safety of journalists, universal access to information, media development and media and information literacy, innovation and digital transformation, as well as accessibility and preservation of documentary heritage; - Prepare for, follow, take notes and report on CI-related items and discussions during the 214th and 215th sessions of the Executive Board; Long Description ---------------- - Ensure follow-up with colleagues to guarantee that information on programme implementation is completed in the SISTER monitoring system; - Organize the staff retreat of the CI Sector, by preparing the concept note and agenda; identifying and liaising with facilitators, trainers and speakers; communicating with colleagues; and organizing logistics; - Support communication and outreach efforts, including by planning and developing communication materials in multiple formats for online and offline use. This includes updating existing communication materials, identifying and liaising with external service providers as necessary; - Support fundraising efforts and planning, and provide support to the implementation of the CI Sector's resource mobilization plan in consultation with relevant UNESCO services; - Improve communication and knowledge management for the CI Sector; - Perform any other tasks as assigned by Chief, CI/EO. Long Description ---------------- Deliverables: - The Individual Specialist shall submit a monthly progress report concerning work undertaken in performing the outlined duties. **COMPETENCIES (Core)** ----------------------- Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, international affairs/relations/development, public policy or any other relevant field. ***Work Experience*** - At least 2 years of experience in project planning, coordination and management, communications, events organization, and/or preparation of texts and publications (reports, briefings, speeches etc.). - Experience with UNESCO and/or the United Nations system and demonstrated understanding of their functioning and procedures will be considered an asset. ***Skills/Competencies*** - Excellent analytical and drafting skills; - Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to exchange, develop and summarize concise information on complex issues; - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in multicultural environment with external and internal partners; - Excellent organization and planning skills, including the ability to organize own work priorities and deadlines, take ownership of assigned duties and tasks, and work independently towards their completion. Discretion and maturity of judgement are required; - Ability to work under pressure; - Solid computer skills including advanced knowledge of office software such as Word and Excel. ***Languages*** - Excellent knowledge (written and oral) of English or French and good working knowledge of the other language. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***Skills/Competencies*** - Competencies and demonstrated experience in using communications and design software for the development of analogue and digital promotional and/or communications material, such as the Adobe Suite or similar tools. - Competencies in translation and editing. ***Languages*** - Knowledge of other official languages of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish). **APPLICATION PROCESS** ----------------------- Interested candidates should complete the on-line application (click on “Apply Now”), download, complete and attach the *Employment History form* (Word file).
