Duties and Responsibilities Oragnisational Setting

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is one of the major United Nations office sites, where numerous different UN agencies have joint presence. It is the UN’s official headquarters in Africa.

The Development Coordination Office (DCO) is the Secretariat to the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) and manager of the Resident Coordinator (RC) system at the country-level. CBS coordinates and advise the rollout and implementation of the UNSDG Efficiency Agenda in line with SG’s targets. This involves, among others, implementing Business Operations Strategies (BOS) and establishing Local Shared Service Centers (LSSC) in all 131 UNCTs, and increasing the global proportion of Common Premises (CP) to 50%.

Consultant will dually report to both (i) The Senior Coordination officer in Division of Administrative Services in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), and (ii) the work of the Country Business Strategies Section (CBS) located at the Development Coordination Office (DCO).

Duties and responsibilities

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Senior Coordination Officer (SCO), and in close collaboration with the CBS-LSSC team of DCO, the consultant will advise on the following tasks: - Prepare data analysis leading to change (operation) process recommendations. - Advise in drafting country business cases, assisting in the initial LSSC roll-outs of the Kenya LSSC and other countries in the African Region and beyond. Moreover, actively engage with the DCO associated teams and workstreams (LSSC-, CP-, BOS-, DMT- teams). - Create content for specific stakeholders, including (PowerPoint) presentation decks and literature. - Come up with different points of view and opposing and conflicting ideas. - Provide feedback and clarification. - Demonstrate flexibility with task completion and prioritization.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A minimum of Master’s or equivalent in Business Administration or related field is required. A first level degree with additional two years of qualifying experience maybe accepted in lieu of master's degree. Experience: A minimum of 2 years experience in Business Administration or related field is required. - Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar desirable. - Experience with Business Intelligence tools is a plus. - Have proactively demonstrated keen interest in the work of the International Organizations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the International Organizations is desirable. - Have proactively demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required.
