Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will:

• Prepare the draft report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, including the legal reasoning and framework, on the phenomenon of an institutionalised system of discrimination, segregation, disrespect of human dignity and exclusion of women and girls in Afghanistan. • In coordination with the Special Rapporteur and other relevant mandate holders, consult with representatives of Member States and UN and non-UN experts, including Afghan women, for their input into the report; • Conduct two trips of 5 working days in 2024 to Geneva to (1) to hold consultations with mandate holders, Member States, and UN and non-UN experts, including Afghan women; (2) coordinate with the support team of the Special Rapporteur; and (3) be available to support the Special Rapporteur and other mandate holders with Member States and media during the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue of the 56th Session of the Human Rights Council to address questions and provide more information on the report on the phenomenon of an institutionalised system of discrimination, segregation, disrespect of human dignity and exclusion of women and girls.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced degree in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field is required. Eleven (11) years of relevant work experience, especially in women’s rights and gender, and its impacts on human rights is required. High level of expertise in the areas of gender discrimination, gender persecution, and other forms of gender justice, women’s rights, accountability mechanisms.

Languages

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
