Result of Service Conduct activities related to the mandate to protect children from violence and their follow ups on the VNR processes. Active participation in the organization of high-level events on Violence against Children. Strengthen the collaboration and follow up with Government counterparts, NGOs and the Regional Organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities Realizing every child’s right to grow up free from all forms of violence is a fundamental thrust of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and its Optional Protocols. The inclusion of a specific target to end all form of violence against children (SDG target 16.2) in the 2030 Agenda reflects an increasing political willingness to address the issue.

Under the guidance of the SRSG, the Consultant will provide support to consolidate the achievement of the Mandate; to strengthen the SRSG Office engagement with Arab and African regions in the follow-ups with the 2022 Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) processes at regional and national levels to accelerate efforts to end violence against children; and to strengthen collaboration with States, UN entities, regional organizations, and NGOs.

The consultant will also support in gathering data information, preparing press releases in Arabic for communication and advocacy purposes as well as organizing regional events both in the Arab and Africa regions.

Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, urban studies, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area. Experience in the field of child rights and child protection is required.

Additional Information Knowledge of the mandate and UN system. Knowledge of the Arabic region. Fluency and excellent drafting skills in Arabic and English
