  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in the fields of arts, heritage, culture, or a related field.
  • Minimum ten-year professional experience in research in the fields of culture, cultural policies, and other related fields.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the 2003 Convention and its operational mechanisms, especially its periodic reporting mechanism.
  • Excellent writing skills in English.
  • Discretion and capacity to draft efficiently and tactfully recommendations to States Parties coming from different cultures.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to work schedules and priorities, as well as ability to work under pressure.
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, electronic mail functionalities).
  • Familiarity with the language and terminology of the 2003 Convention.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and advanced knowledge of French.
  • Prior work experience implementing the international cooperation mechanisms of the 2003 Convention, particularly the Periodic reporting mechanism.

**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Culture Sector (CLT) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Culture Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 17-MAR-2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- In the framework of the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereinafter ‘the 2003 Convention’), and in close consultation with the Programme Management Unit of the Living Heritage Entity, the Individual Consultant shall undertake the analysis of the reports submitted by States Parties on the status of elements of intangible cultural heritage present in its territory that have been inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding (hereinafter ‘the Urgent Safeguarding List’). The analysis of the reports will require the following tasks: • Assessing around twenty reports submitted by States Parties in December 2020 (considered as the reports of the 2021 cycle) and, for each report, providing a brief analysis covering three main aspects related to the status of the elements inscribed on the Urgent Safeguarding List: i) the effectiveness of the safeguarding plan; ii) community participation; iii) the viability of the elements and current risks. • Providing general observations and findings across the reports of the 2021 cycle, focusing on the common trends and challenges among States in safeguarding their elements inscribed on the Urgent Safeguarding List; The assessment for each report, as well as the general observations, will be presented to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, for examination at its sixteenth session to be held from 13 to 18 December 2021.
