Result of Service

The result of service from the Consultant will be the establishment of a regular cadence of science policy brief publication, a regular interaction among Board Members, and the delivery of the Board Retreat and Board side event at the summit of the future.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Policy Briefs and Report Writing: Co-create Science Policy Briefs and the annual horizon scanning report, ensuring they align strategically and are effectively disseminated. 2. Network Coordination and Engagement: Facilitate outreach to experts and network institutions, fostering efficient collaboration and partnerships with the Board to support its strategic goals. Ensure ongoing communication and engagement with key stakeholders. 3. Event Planning and Coordination: Support the planning and coordination of the first in-person Board retreat and other related high-level meetings and conferences, including UN system chief scientist meetings, ensuring they are effectively organized and meet their objectives. 4. Project Management and Communications: Manage the follow-up to events and meetings, ensuring effective communication and action tracking. Track and analyze Board action points to assess implementation progress, identify opportunities for improvement and provide strategic insights. 5. Leadership support and resource mobilization: Draft talking points, correspondences and background papers as required by UN senior leadership to advance Board initiatives. Support partner mobilization efforts by providing inputs to proposals and presentations as well as engaging with potential donors.

Qualifications/special skills

Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as science, technology, public policy, or international relations. At least 5 years of experience in management consulting, policy development, and leadership support is required. Presentation design skills are desirable. Experience in analyzing data to support decision-making is desirable. Experience in cultivating and maintaining relationships to non-profits and donors is desirable. Ability to review and evaluate scientific papers and studies is desirable. Knowledge of emerging issues and global trends, and associated risks and opportunities is desirable. Experience in working in Adobe InDesign or Canva is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
