The purpose of this assignment is to ensure the seamless coordination, planning, and execution of UNICEF's presence and activations at three major global events: the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland in January 2025, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March 2025 in Barcelona, Spain and the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France in June 2025. This involves detailed collaboration with internal teams and external partners to define project scopes, develop comprehensive project plans, and create impactful event experiences and activations

Scope of Work

The scope of this assignment involves coordinating and planning UNICEF's participation at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Cannes Lions Festival, and the Mobile World Congress. This includes collaborating with internal teams and external partners, managing event agencies to develop detailed project plans, oversee logistics, overseeing logistics and ensuring effective space management, including branding and access. Additionally, the assignment covers planning and executing engagement activities within the space, such as managing speaker engagements, developing agendas, creating timelines, and preparing briefing notes. Deliverables include comprehensive coordination plans, finalized event setups, and briefs for activations, ensuring a successful and strategic presence at these prominent global events.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Educational Background:

  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in Business Management or another relevant technical field is required.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred but not essential.

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in event planning and management, particularly in coordinating large-scale international events.
  • Proven experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or in the international development sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing event agencies and external partners, with a strong track record of successful event execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in logistics management, space management (branding, access), and stakeholder engagement at high-profile events.
  • Experience with budget management and financial planning for events.

Skills:

  • Fluency in English is required, knowledge of a UN language is an asset.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and as a team player with a range of constituents and colleagues at varying levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal are an asset.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player.
  • Strong customer service approach to interactions with colleagues and partners; ability to navigate complex environments and help build relationships with a variety of stakeholders is an asset.
  • Media and PR experience is an asset.

Remarks:

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump sum) fees in USD against the deliverables listed above, including all associated administrative and travel costs (if applicable), in the cover letter. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
