Duties and Responsibilities

The consultancy entails providing support to ERS for the following activities: Part A: Review and update of the UNDAC Field Handbook (version 2018): the consultant will support ERS and a small working group in the review and update of the Handbook, by coordinating inputs and updates from subject matter experts, editing and proofreading of text and supporting the design of the new Handbook. Part B: Review and update of the UNDAC Induction course: the consultant will support ERS and a small working group in the overall design of the course, developing session plans, session training materials, exercises, scenarios and injects. Part C: Design and roll out of the UNDAC Refresher course: the consultant will support ERS and a small working group in the overall design of the refresher course, developing session plans, session training materials, exercises, scenarios and injects. Part D: Design of scenario to be used in field simulation and desk top exercises for use in the UNDAC Induction and Refresher course: the consultant will support ERS, MapAction and a small working group in the development of a fictive country scenario that is a vehicle for experiential learning in field simulation and desktop exercises, including baseline data, background information, exercise injects (role plays, emails, reports, videos, etc.)

Qualifications/special skills

A minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development, or other related area is required. Sound knowledge of OCHA’s mandate and the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) system. Required Experience in working in the international disaster response environment in the field is preferred, Strong interpersonal skills and project management skills, required Ability to work independently

Languages

Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of a second UN language would be an advantage.
