This role is being established to increase the Market Knowledge unit’s capacity to provide reporting, prepare supporting documentation and research summaries for an increasing number of markets and new projects. Five main areas have been identified:

1. Income Analysis and Benchmarking: identify growth opportunities by supporting the Peer Review, one of the MKU flagship products by producing 55 customized individual country reports where UNICEF fundraises.

2. Competitive Analysis: inspire PFP colleagues by spotting and tracking competitors’ successful campaigns or activities.

3. Partnerships (Awakening Sleeping Giants): maximize the current partners donation by identifying shared values and sweet spots for further partnership.

4. Sports partnerships: identify and assess best prospects on thematic level with financial and non-financial support from the football sector and sports at large.

5. Tools and database: produce Power BI dashboards and reports for the new Peer Review to allow MKU to produce the country Peer Review.

How can you make a difference?

Scope of Work:

Working under the supervision of the Market Research Manager, the Market Research consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Working with the supplier of the Peer Review to produce internally the market Peer Review. This will put into context UNICEF results and allow PFP and markets to fine-tune their fundraising objectives. Support the Market Research Manager in his presentation with markets, globally and regionally. The consultant will also help design the agenda for the Global Insights Day, take note and build knowledge on UNICEF’s peers.

  2. Supporting the Market Research Manager in his presentation with markets, globally and regionally to inform all PFP colleagues and markets about where growth has occurred (intra and inter benchmarking reports).

  3. Supporting the Market Research Manager in his presentation with markets, globally and regionally to inform all PFP colleagues and markets about where growth happened by providing examples from competitors.

  4. Supporting MKU in producing the Power BI dashboards and reports for the Peer Review (scripts).

  5. Supporting the work on Sports by updating a football clubs mapping and scoring model for the Corporate Team and some national Committees. Help the NatComs when there is a potential pitch.

Sports Trends and Strategy with Corporate

10 partners to assess in PowerPoint document (*.ppt file).

KPIs: 1) high quality analysis and comments in PPT as defined in the technical brief (template defined by UNICEF to assess the sport prospects; 2) most-up-to date information on social listening of the club, its partners and players;

Industry trends for Corporate

Global report to assess the trends and implications for UNICEF for key industries/sector for Corporate. Focus on ESG trends by sectors and existing partnerships with competitors.

KPIs: 1) all trends have clear implications for UNICEF. 2) cover the 8 key priority sectors for UNICEF as specified by PASS.

Competitive analysis

Review FR and Comms results of 5 most important organizations (Red Cross, MSF, ….). Deliverables are PPT reports based on UNICEF template.

KPIs: 1) the Peer is analyzed in 3 dimensions: income, comms and brand. 2) clear implications for UNICEF are analyzed on how to differentiate with Peers.

Competitive analysis

Produce the Inter and the Intra Peer Review reports (2023) for Best in Class and Bright spots identification in main fundraising income streams. This will inform all PFP colleagues and markets about where growth has occurred. Deliverables are Excel tables.

KPIs: 1) all Peers and Markets are covered. 2) all measures are benchmarked in 2022 vs 2021 and 2022 vs 2018.

Supervisor: Market Research Manager, Market Knowledge Unit (PFP)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • First level university degree (Bachelor or higher), in marketing or Business administration, or another relevant field is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional work experience in marketing and data analysis with Excel and Power BI in Market Research areas, or other related fields.
  • Prior experience in market research or monitoring for a non-profit organization is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and turning data into insights (Market Insights).
  • Strong command of Excel and Power BI, (Market Measurements).
  • Experience in building dashboards with business intelligence tools is a plus.
  • Experience in the area of partnerships and sponsorship is desirable.
  • Some experience in desk research, monitoring companies/organisations’ best practices by industry sector (Market Intelligence).
  • Experience working in an international environment is a plus.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset

Remarks:

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump sum) fees against the deliverables listed above, including all associated administrative and travel costs (if applicable), in the cover letter. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
