UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight tackles the questions of greatest importance for children, both current and emerging. It drives change through research and foresight on a wide range of child rights issues, sparking global discourse and actively engaging young people in its work.

UNICEF Innocenti equips thought leaders and decision-makers with the evidence they need to build a better, safer world for children. The office undertakes research on unresolved and emerging issues, using primary and secondary data that represents the voices of children and families themselves. It uses foresight to set the agenda for children, including horizon scanning, trends analysis and scenario development. The office produces a diverse and dynamic library of high-level reports, analyses and policy papers, and provides a platform for debate and advocacy on a wide range of child rights issues.

UNICEF Innocenti provides, for every child, answers to their most pressing concerns.

How can you make a difference?

- Training: Complete UNICEF Drupal CMS training. - File management: Consistently apply strict naming conventions to all documents, media assets and other files in the CMS library; upload necessary assets to CMS - Build and populate simple, static webpages (i.e. articles and informational landing pages) using the page templates and modular content blocks provided within UNICEF’s Drupal Content Management System (CMS). Coding is not required. - Data visualization: When necessary, recreate data visualizations using Infogram and embed the interactive visualizations on relevant webpages. - Photography research: When necessary, select photography options for webpages from UNICEF’s library on WeShare. - Troubleshooting: Communicate with Digital Support team to troubleshoot and repair any broken links/elements as needed. - Solicit and apply feedback from supervisor and other identified stakeholders to improve layout and functionality of individual elements and entire webpages. - Submit completed pages for approval.

Supervision

The consultant will work under the art direction and supervision of the Design Specialist in the Editorial and Flagships Unit of UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

  • A first University Degree in a relevant field, such as Communications, Media studies, Communications Design, Graphic Design, Data Visualization, Visual Journalism.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in visual communication, digital content, web maintenance or related fields
  • Experience with a CMS such as Drupal is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Desirable qualifications

• Experience translating complex ideas into unified storytelling visuals; ability to parse through large amounts of information in order to create simplified and clear designs. • Proficiency with data visualization software/tools such as Excel, Infogram, and Tableau is considered an asset. • Familiarity HTML, and CSS are considered an asset. • Familiarity with UI/UX design is considered an asset. • Experience working with UNICEF or other UN entities/agencies is considered an asset.

Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
