BACKGROUND

The UNICEF Digital Community Curator Support will help build value in our nearly 22,000-person plus global network of digital communities that accelerate knowledge exchange, communication and engagement around the globe for UNICEF. The Consultant will support the Digital Communities lead by helping implement the digital community strategy and actively promoting content that aligns with UNICEF key priorities with a focus on Child Protection, Nutrition in Emergencies and Adolescent Development and Participation (ADAP); crafting and synthesizing topical community narratives, amplifying micro-stories to drive maximum engagement, measuring and managing growth, leveraging existing behavioral analytics.

The Consultant will bring a broad external experience in curating community and social media content, including meme-writing, from the private sectors, and add new and innovative ideas, best-in- class adoption techniques, and other critical perspectives to ensure the success of the Digital Communities program - and our staff, and their work - at UNICEF.

Terms of Reference / Deliverables

In close collaboration and working with the Knowledge Management Specialist/Digital Communities lead the Consultant is responsible for delivering the following tasks:

  • Synthesize topical community narratives, produce and amplify micro-stories to drive maximum engagement.
  • Review Child Protection, Nutrition in Emergencies and ADAP Community comments and posts in a quick and timely manner.
  • Respond to comments to foster a positive community and add value to the whole UNICEF Network.
  • Participate in relevant and targeted conversations related to critical programs/sectors and aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Help develop 35 micro-stories, knowledge synthesis and other relevant content for targeted amplification.
  • Seed content and conversations in selected communities to keep them active and valuable to our end users.
  • Help our most active leaders with relevant success content for their activities and engagement.
  • Support execution of Digital Community strategy and action plan with a special focus on activating and managing the Child Protection, Nutrition and ADAP Communities.
  • Help successfully plan and organize digital events, including Ask Me Anything, Digital Deep Dives, involving leaders and technical experts. Production of concepts notes and curation of final syntheses.
  • Help craft new technical and facilitation guidance for Yammer users organizing digital events on Yammer

Qualifications

(1) Education

  • Master degree in Journalism, Communication, Media, and/or another related field
  • Proficiency in social media and collaboration channels (internal and external), Office 365, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe and other relevant programs
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is a plus

2) Work experience

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 15 + years of progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in communication, social media strategy, and marketing.
  • At least 8 years of work managing internal or external online communities (Yammer, Jive, Workplace by Facebook, Twitter or a combination of similar platforms)
  • Experience curating community content (e.g., building digital content, creating online campaigns or polls, creating an event series and writing an email newsletter)
  • Excellent communication, management, coaching and writing skills
  • Ability to interpret online traffic and online engagement metrics using SWOOP Analytics
  • Ability to comfortably liaise directly with senior leadership, technology practitioners, and global staff
  • Proficiency in Office 365.Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe and other relevant programs
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is a plus

Requirements****:

  • Completed profile in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and provide Personal History Form (P11) Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include:
  • your daily/monthly rate (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • Indicate your availability
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
