UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a future

How can you make a difference?

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

Countries across South Asia are experiencing a new and deadly surge of COVID-19. The region, home to almost 2 billion people, now accounts for half of all new, known infections globally.

Mortality from COVID-19 is rising sharply. With every minute that passes, three more people in the region lose their lives to the virus.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. There is an acute lack of oxygen and other life-saving medical supplies, and there is a real risk of already-fragile health systems collapsing. In the countries that are being hardest hit, entire families are losing their lives to the virus. Meanwhile, overburdened health centres and health workers are struggling to deliver essential services, like traditional immunizations. For many children and families who were already living in poverty, violence or displacement, the pandemic has magnified existing vulnerabilities.

While COVID-vaccination rates are slowly rising in more developed countries, South Asian nations are being left behind. As the current wave slows and variants continue to spread, the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) is preparing for the waves to come.

UNICEF has worked to mobilize and leverage the private sector in collaboration with government and other public actors to provide COVID-19 relief to vulnerable children and families. Funds are urgently needed to support a variety of relief initiatives including (but not limited to) health, nutrition, education and child protection.

To this end, ROSA is seeking a fundraising content specialist to support the fundraising efforts to address COVID-19.

Key Assignments/Tasks:

  • Support the development of pitches, proposals, and additional fundraising assets

  • Conducting mappings and analyses to enable targeted outreach. Subtasks may include:
      1. Profiling potential corporate donors in select countries, assessing their level of awareness of UNICEF, and their attitudes and expectations concerning donations.
    1. Profiling potential high-value donors (at both individual and corporate levels) in the country and defining a targeted approach to reach and engage them.
    2. Identifying other organizations engaging in local fundraising and defining UNICEF’s comparative advantages.
  • Brainstorming creative ideas for events that could increase funding opportunities for the South Asian region. This could include events like virtual trips or field trips as well as fundraising events or advocacy and awareness initiatives.
