Support the implementation of the FGM programme components effectively

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, anthropology, medicine or related field.
  • Five to ten years of professional work experience in health, SRH, gender-based violence, and FGM.
  • Experience working with NCCM and FGM National Programmes.
  • Expertise in project management.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Previous work experience with UN or donors is a plus.

Objective:

To support the implementation of the FGM programme components, including the implementation of the Annual Work Plans with relevant line ministries and specialized councils for the year 2023-2024.

METHODOLOGY AND SCOPE OF WORK:

The consultant will carry out this assignment through:

  • Technical coordination with CP colleagues in regard to programme planning, monitoring and reporting;
  • Regular field support to implementing partners to support and monitor work.

Scope of work

The FGM exercise will be implemented under direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer (FGM) and the Child Protection Specialist (EVAC and HP) and under the overall guidance of Child Protection Section Chief.

The assignment requires some coordination with relevant UNICEF colleagues. There is also coordination expected with the National FGM Committee.

The design and implementation of interventions will be guided by UNICEF AWPs, national priorities, and lessons learnt of previous UNICEF Programmes. The scope of work will include participation in in technical meetings with UNICEF Team. As well as participation in meetings/workshops with partners throughout the duration of the exercise.

Implementation of interventions and capacity building of implementing partners working on FGM

  • Work with the national partners and local NGOs on monitoring the implementation of FGM abandonment activities in the field, in cooperation with UNICEF Child Protection Officer and EVAC/HP Specialist. Ensure implementation is according to the signed work plan and following the agreed-on indicators and targets.

  • Report no 1 on regular follow-up conducted with national partners and progress of implementation as per the signed agreements and AWP.

Maintain liaison with partners at the governorate and/or district level, communicate opportunities and challenges to UNICEF team for potential linkages to child protection systems’ strengthening and gender-based violence programmes.

Conditions of work:

The consultant will be based in Cairo. However, the consultant is expected to travel to governorates to support the monitoring and implementation of the FGM interventions. Travel cost will be covered by UNICEF after submitting all supporting documents.

The payments will be made based on reporting against deliverables. The consultant's work should meet the expectations of UNICEF Team with regards to the quality and the progress towards the expected tasks and deliverables.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
