Overview
Collaborate with ONE to assess data quality and facilitate data sharing within environment statistics.
You have:
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in statistics, economics, development studies, international relations, public administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in social sciences, including statistics or economics, is required.
- Solid knowledge of statistical production with a focus on environmental statistics and the use of administrative data and quality management is desirable.
- Knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals and national efforts to implement them is desirable.
- Experience working with National Statistical Offices, providing guidance and training is desirable.
- Full command of spoken and written Spanish is required, confidence level in English is required, and knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
Result of Service The Office of National Statistics of the Dominican Republic (ONE) has established/improved working relationships with three administrative data holders and they have jointly assessed data quality and agreed on next steps for data sharing and use.

Duties and Responsibilities Work assignment Specifically, the work assignment will be carried out in close collaboration with ONE and involve the following:
- Prepare a detailed plan of activities, specifying key outputs and timelines, in close consultation with ONE and the UNSD project coordinator.
- Summarize experiences and good regional practices of similar cases.
- Conduct and document an initial report of administrative data in close collaboration with ONE from the three direct sources (ministries and government departments within the field of environment statistics).
- Assess the quality of the three identified sources of data that have been identified following international recommendations for the quality assessment of administrative data sources, consolidated in a report.
- Based upon the revised similar cases, draft a guideline for the auto evaluation of the potential of data to be considered source of administrative data for environment monitoring.
If needed, provide input to the development of Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with the administrative data owners of the three data sources that help regulate the data sharing with ONE in the field of environment statistics, specifying which data to share as well as format, means and frequency of exchange.
Qualifications/special skills Academic qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, economics, development studies, international relations, public administration, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in social sciences, including statistics or economics, is required
- Solid knowledge of statistical production, ideally with particular focus on environmental statistics and the use of administrative data and quality management is desirable.
- Knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals and national efforts to implement them is desirable.
Experience working with National Statistical Offices, providing guidance and training is desirable.
