Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, learning

The Jordan Country Office is supporting the Government of Jordan to recover children’s learning during and post COVID19. UNICEF is providing high quality technical assistance to the Ministry of Education to design continuous professional develop, and to develop learning materials that will enable teachers to support children’s learning during and after school closures. This includes the review of the first year of Learning Bridges, a national blended learning program for Grade 4 to Grade 9, to update the content and delivery for the 2021/2022 academic year. It also includes preparing various courses for teacher professional development; one of National Standards Awareness, and another to develop teacher skills in blended learning called ‘Teachers for the Futures’.

In addition, the JCO is redesigning the Learning Support Service delivered through 140 Makani community centres. Originally designed to support Syrian children that were out of school, the program now needs to adapt to provide learning support for in-school children. As part of that refresh the issue of low achievement in reading will be addressed through a competency based reading recovery programme and grade level based mathematics and Arabic literacy will be addressed by building on MOE identified critical concepts in these subjects and providing an engaging cross curricular approach through use of humanities and arts integrating life skills and values based education.

The above deliverables are being developed by an international consultancy firm, the Education Development Trust. For each deliverable there are multiple lessons plans to be developed, reviewed by MOE, feedback incorporated and then the final products quality assured and approve by UNICEF. It will not be possible for the Education Specialist in the Education Section to undertake this function, due to the volume and specialist nature of the products. To ensure that the international consultancy firm is delivering to a high standard and responding to the needs of the Ministry of Education, four national subject specialists will be hired by UNICEF. The Education Specialist will ensure that the four national subject consultants are performing this task, providing technical oversight and direction.

The consultant will have the technical expertise to provide support to the consultancy company to ensure that resources are appropriately contextualized and built on Jordan curriculum and the critical learning outcomes developed by the Ministry of Education. Additionally, they will have a good understanding of the teaching of the subject specialist, including understanding different pedagogical methods, so that they are able to provide feedback to the consultancy firm on lesson plans, and the content of teacher professional development courses.

When necessary ,the consultant will provide translation to allow smooth communication between international UNICEF staff and consultants with project stakeholders. The consultant will be accountable for their own work plan and track progress of the above activities producing timely and accurate reporting as required by UNICEF.
