The Bureau serves as the regional hub for Education in the Arab region, and also works to build peace through international cooperation on Sciences and Culture. UNESCO’s programmes contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. As part of this effort, the Education sector provides technical support to deliver quality education to the 19 member states, in aim of advocating for and progressing the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) of the2030 Agenda in the Arab region - to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030. One of the key roles and responsibilities of UNESCO Beirut is coordinating the education community to achieve this goal through partnerships, policy guidance, capacity development, monitoring and advocacy. This places UNESCO in a unique position to support member states in achieving the SDG4-Education 2030 agenda. UNESCO Beirut works closely with field offices across the region, UNESCO Category II institutions as well as international and regional stakeholders in coordinating common efforts and building on synergies. **PURPOSE** ----------- UNESCO Beirut is seeking assistance (consultant) to provide assistance to the Chief of Education related to UNESCO Beirut’s works on SDG 4. Concretely, the Consultant shall undertake the following tasks and deliver the corresponding outputs: *Outcome: Effective reporting, monitoring, and coordination processes with quality documentations, and administrative arrangements of activities within the Education sector.* **SCOPE OF WORK/KEY ACTIVITIES** -------------------------------- - Ensure good communication and regular update to the key stakeholders on Education/SDG 4-related works in the region; - Build collaborative and close partnership with the key stakeholders in the region (UNESCO Beirut colleagues, UNESCO field/cluster offices, UNESCO Institutes, regional organizations, other UN agencies) and UNESCO HQ; - Provide technical inputs to programme activities, review technical documents and reports for publication or sharing; - Develop concept notes, TORs, draft agendas, draft reports, activity briefs, meeting minutes, draft speeches, etc.; - Assist in organizing high-level meetings/conferences including Arab Meeting for Education IV (AR-MED IV) and ministerial meetings; - Assist in finalizing the Arab SDG 4 Regional Progress Summary; - Assist the process of SDG 4 Benchmarking exercise for the Arab region; - Arrange the needed logistical arrangements for holding technical workshops on SDG 4 indicators, including coordinating agendas and training content with the technical expert from UNESCO HQ, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, and UNICEF HQ; - Assist the administrative process of conducting public education financing analysis in the Arab region – contractual arrangements; - Provide logistical and administrative support to meetings and events (virtual and in-person), including coordinating with partners, liaising with translators, ensuring resources are available for event, sending out calendar invites, booking venue, etc.; - Liaise with proof editors and designers regarding publication (both print and e-publication) of reports/brochures, etc. supervised/approved by Chief of Education - Translate (Arabic and English) for the Chief of section during small meetings with stakeholders; - Draft advocacy content - to be shared with the Media Coordinator Officer for updating activities on websites and social media platforms; - Provide any other needed support to UNESCO Beirut Chief of Education throughout duration of contract. **REPORTING** ------------- Throughout the assignment, the consultant will work under the overall guidance of the Director of UNESCO Beirut Regional Bureau for Education and will report to the Chief of Education/Senior Programme Specialist.
