How can you make a difference?

    1. Research and teamwork
    • Conduct desk review of relevant materials for gaining familiarity with the context of the background paper and to assist filling-in gaps in evidence
    • Liaise with the team preparing the background paper and provide feedback on usefulness of the evidence as well as the clarity and coherence of the drafts’ findings.
    • Ensure that the papers conceptual framework is presented clearly and in line with overall Regional Report.
    • Participate in team discussions aimed at sharpening the background paper main conclusions.
    1. Review and edit, compiling figures/infographics
    • Support delivery of the first complete draft of the background paper with clear conclusions/calls to action.
    • Ensure that all data used in the paper has been substantiated.
    • Ensure that politically sensitive issues are presented with tact using non-confrontational language and carefully chosen wording.
    • Develop and/or embed visuals and captions.
    • Share drafts with the background paper with stakeholders, incorporate/respond to feedback.
    • Finalize and sharpen the background paper content and presentation.
    1. Report designing, dissemination and other support
    • Provide support and quality control of report PDF layout, design, incorporation of infographics, photos and headlines.
    • Obtain approval from ROSA, COs and DOC as required.
    • Support dissemination plan including media engagement plan.
    • Support with report launch and media briefing
    • Other support as need.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in journalism, communication, international relations, political or social sciences, human rights, or comparable academic qualifications *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of at least 10 years of progressively advanced experience in strategic communications, and report writing
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
