The Czech Republic currently hosts close to 400 thousand refugees from Ukraine, with an estimated 30,000 refugees between the ages of 15-19. UNICEF is committed to ensuring that youth are represented as leaders and change agents in the design and implementation of activities.

As such, UNICEF works with partners to incorporate youth into defining and designing interventions that impact youth. This includes working with youth to lead data collection, co-create programmes, and conduct qualitative assessments of UNICEF-funded programmes. The goal is to influence key decision makers by incorporating youth perspective into all programme activity that impacts them. As part of this effort, UNICEF seeks a youth consultant to train other youth in collecting information and designing and assessing programmes using design methodologies. The consultant will also work with UNICEF staff and partners to engage directly with policy makers in order to communicate youth-expressed needs with a view to influence policy and programme initiatives.

How can you make a difference?

1. The consultant will work with UNICEF and partners to implement the following key activities:

a. Work with youth to access UNICEF-funded programmes and document their experience. b. Identify and train youth in how to conduct feedback exercises. c. Support the roll-out of exercises, in particular supporting youth in ensuring their outputs are of high quality.

2. Roll-out a series of youth co-creation workshops about employment and education across the country, in collaboration with UNICEF partners at regional integration centers.

a. Work with youth representatives employed by regional integration centers to identify youth across the country to participate. b. Using human centered design methodology, lead co-creation workshops. c. Synthesize data from workshops into actionable insights.

3. Support youth representatives across the country to design and implement outreach strategies in their regions.4. Support UNICEF team in integrating youth voice into their strategies and advocacy efforts. 4. Support digital outreach and communications efforts targeted at Ukrainian refugees across all sections. 5. Where relevant, represent youth perspective (own perspective and synthesis of youth-led research) in meetings, workshops, and other relevant forums.

  • A minimum education requirement of Secondary School diploma is required.
  • Fluent in English and either Ukrainian or Czech.
  • Training in human centered design, participatory research, or qualitative research methodologies is highly desirable.
  • “Context expertise”, e.g., has experience being displaced youth in the Czech Republic is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with UNICEF, or another UN Agency is highly desirable.
  • Training in research ethics, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, and familiarity with child safeguarding principles is highly desirable.
  • Is entrepreneurial, curious, and passionate about social impact.
  • Works well as part of a team, consistently seeks to understand the perspective of others.
  • Strong ability to synthesis multiple streams of information
  • Strong communication skills
  • Feels comfortable with ambiguity. Able to balance flexible work style while maintaining focus on goal.

Remarks:

  • Candidate should be between 18 and 25 years old and should have some experience with human centered design; however formal training is not required.
  • Completion of the UN/UNICEF mandatory trainings is obligatory upon commencement of the contract.

  • The Consultant will perform his/her duties in line with UNICEF standards and procedures.
  • Individuals engaged under a consultancy contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants.
  • Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

    The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
