Consultancy Title: Personal Attendant

Section/Division/Duty Station: Education Section, Programme Group – HQ New York

Duration: May 2, 2022 to January 3, 2023 (74 days - Work arrangement would be flexible- 2 full days or 4 half days, and include work on site and remotely )

BACKGROUND

Reasonable accommodation - Personal attendant to support UNV, GEI Team, Education Section.

Terms of Reference / Deliverables

Scope of Work:

  • Provide support in the following areas to complete administrative, documentations and other tasks
  • Orientation of the working environment, building, and the surrounding areas;
  • Accessing and orientation with UNICEF’s E-Systems
  • Collating comments and feedback on documents provided by internal and external partners.
  • Formatting documents, including inserting comments, feedback, graphics and pictures.
  • Reading documents and describing graphics and illustrations which are not accessible to screen reader software.
  • Reviewing and completing forms related to agreements, contracts, etc.
  • Providing mobility support as needed.
  • Provide any ad hoc support as needed.

In close collaboration and working with GEI Team, the incumbent is responsible for providing support to the UNV as follows:

  • Accessibility related support for completion of day-to-day tasks and deliverables, including documents, forms, charts, PowerPoint, Share Points which are not accessible through a screen-reading software.

  • Support in editing, formatting and finalizing documents; and in responding to comments on documents; organizing meetings and workshops

Qualifications

(1) Education

  • University degree or High School equivalent
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English language is required.

2) Work experience

  • Experience working with people with disability, especially people with visual impairments, and fluency with IT are necessary.
  • Knowledge and two years of experience in providing mobility and orientation support to visually impaired persons is required.

3) Competencies

  • Strong skills and expertise in working with information technology MS Teams; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; SharePoint; Adobe is required.
  • Fluency and strong writing skills in English are required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English language is required.

  • Financial proposal that will include:
  • your daily/monthly rate (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference (can be downloaded here: https://www.unicef.org/about/employ/index_consultancy_assignments.html
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.

  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.
