Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, health

UNICEF works to put the rights and well-being of the most disadvantaged children at the heart of the social, political, and economic agenda, in line with our equity focus, working across our organization and with our partners in government, civil society and the private sector to support shifts in public policy, fuel social engagement, and increase investment for children.

The background of this consultancy is the “Annual thematic report on child overweight in Latin America and the Caribbean and its prevention” of the UNICEF Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office (LACRO), which highlights the fact that overweight in children is one of the main public health challenges in the region. Around 3.9 million of children under 5 years old have overweight, or 7.5%, a number above the global average of 5.6%. Besides, the distribution and rates of obesity among the population are unequal. These differences can be partly explained by the availability and accessibility of products of low nutritional quality and high energy value. Furthermore, the Covid-19 pandemic has shown the vulnerability and greater risk of aggravation and mortality for people with obesity, including children and adolescents with this condition.

In addition to the release of the report, UNICEF will organize a virtual regional conference style event to disseminate information about the situation of child overweight in LAC and key preventative actions that are under way. The Both events require planning and logistics. A consultant is sought for these tasks.
