BACKGROUND
Continuing the joint mission of Procter & Gamble and Save the Children to advance gender equality in West Java, Indonesia, the We See Equal (WSE) project entered Phase 4 with a focus on addressing the critical issues of intolerance, bullying, and sexual violence in educational settings, particularly emphasizing gender dynamics and child-led advocacy efforts. This phase also aimed to deepen our work in existing districts, expand to new contexts, particularly Muslim schools, and achieve further governmental support for gender equity. By adapting our approach to this new context and focusing on creating gender-sensitive environments within Religious Schools, we are embracing the challenge of affecting change.
The foundation for success in Phase 4 lies in a cohesive strategy that aims to make impactful changes within the community by utilizing a socioecological model. This model encourages engagement at all levels of the education ecosystem, from individuals including students, teachers and parents, to surrounding community, and local and national government stakeholders. WSE also strengthens child-led advocacy. In this critical phase, Save the Children Indonesia, in collaboration with P&G, will maintain its role as an ecosystem convener, cultivating strong equity with local government and empowering all stakeholders to achieve the project’s goal – "to champion gender equality in education through a holistic approach that integrates gender awareness, child protection and mental health support into the educational experience of children in Indonesia, directly addressing the three most prevalent issues facing children - intolerance, bullying and sexual violence.
To gather lessons learned from the implementation in the MTS environment, a case study will be conducted at the end of phase 4.The primary goal this study is to provide a strategic information related to how CHOICES+ is adapted for Religious Schools, specifically for Madrasah Tsanawiyah so that this environment becomes more sensitive to gender issues and violence against children.
