How can you make a difference?

Purpose of the Assignment

Under the overall guidance of the regional office's Monitoring Specialist, the consultant will support the analysis and visualization of program and situation data to facilitate their use of decision making. With this goal in mind, the consultant will wrangle and organize existing program and situation data, as well as produce both static and dynamic visualization to communicate findings.

Specific Tasks

  1. Update the Statistical Panorama
  2. Support ongoing monitoring initiatives in migration, protection, and education
  3. Analyse and prepare RAM dashboards
  4. Automate analysis and reports commonly used by the planning team - as well as other sectors.
  5. Support requests for programme monitoring assistances from all goal areas in the regional office.

Expected Results

  1. The statistical panorama is updated. This will be evaluated by looking at the final panorama report, as well as monthly progress updates. (10 days)
  2. The planning team has timely and effective analysis of migration, protection, and education data. This will be evaluated by monthly statistical reports, as well as syntax produced for the analysis. (20 days)
  3. The planning team has timely and effective analysis of RAM indicators. This will be evaluated by looking at dashboards and syntax produced for the analysis. (30 days)
  4. The planning team has streamlined procedures to produced routine reports. This will be evaluated with the syntax used to automate the production of reports. (30 days)
  5. Other tasks that arise depending on support demands from program sections will be evaluated through the delivery of syntax, statistical reports, or research reports. (30 days)

All deliverables will be received in digital format. Finally, note that tasks won't take place in sequential order. As such, a monthly report will be submitted to keep track of work done in each area. The monthly reports will include copies of the syntax, statistical reports, and other deliverables described above.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor's degree in social statistics, economics, mathematics, demography, data science, epidemiology, or other related technical field with significant measurement or analysis component is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years in data collection and analysis.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of French or Portuguese will be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in using R, Python, or other data processing software for data analysis and data wrangling
  • Experience in data wrangling and organizing of messy data sets
  • Experience designing dashboards and visualizing complex information for non-technical users.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Detail oriented
  • Previous experience with UNICEF programme data would be an asset

Supervision

The consultant / individual contractor will work under the direct supervision of the monitoring specialist and in close collaboration with the wider Planning and Monitoring team.

Duration

The consultancy is for nine (9) months, starting approximately in June 2021.

Workplace

This consultancy is home-based.
