    How can you make a difference?

The Nutrition Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO), is seeking an individual consultant to provide technical support to the EAP Regional Office on developing regional operational guidance documents for maternal nutrition.

Work Assignment:

  1. Model Maternal Nutrition Curriculum
    • Review draft model curriculum for maternal nutrition and other supporting materials provided by UNICEF EAPRO.
    • Develop draft outline of model curriculum for maternal nutrition using a competency-based framework including core competencies and identified learning outcomes for each section/chapter and following the style and structure of the Investing in Child Nutrition Course for IYCN.
    • Develop additional materials for the competency-based curriculum and integrate existing material from the draft model curriculum for maternal nutrition into the approved outline.
    • Draft the competency-based model curriculum for maternal nutrition and circulate to UNICEF EAPRO Nutrition section for feedback.
    • Integrate comments and edits to finalize content of the competency-based model curriculum for maternal nutrition.
    • Liaise with the UNICEF EAPRO graphic designer to design and format the competency-based model curriculum for maternal nutrition.
  2. Model Maternal Nutrition Counselling Guide
    • Review existing materials on maternal nutrition counselling guidance available at the regional and global level.
    • Develop outline structure of the counselling guide including structure for a decision framework to guide health worker decision making on targeting counselling messages to pre- and post-natal women at defined contact points.
    • Draft the model maternal nutrition counselling guide to support health workers to conduct maternal nutrition counselling.
    • Facilitate review of the draft model maternal nutrition counselling guide by UNICEF EAPRO and Country Office colleagues and integrate comments and feedback.
    • Finalize model maternal nutrition counselling guide.
    • Liaise with UNICEF EAPRO graphic designer on final design and format of the model maternal nutrition counselling guide with support and oversight of UNICEF EAPRO.

Deliverables:

  • Final approved Model Curriculum for Maternal Nutrition
  • Final approved Model Maternal Nutrition Counselling Guide

Duration of Contract: 45 working days during November 2021 – March 2022

Working Location: The consultant will work from own premise.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An Advanced University Degree in Public Health, Nutritional Epidemiology, International Health and Nutrition or Maternal and Child Nutrition
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in public health/nutrition planning, management, policy research at the international level, including experience in low and middle-income countries in South and Southeast Asia.
  • Demonstrable experience on maternal nutrition programming in LMICs
  • Experience in developing competency-based curriculums for health or nutrition topics
  • Experience developing guidance documents for application in multiple contexts.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrable analytical and research skills including review and synthesis of data and information.
  • Specific experience working with UNICEF is considered an asset
  • Excellent oral and written English skills.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
