**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Cairo Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 20-Feb-2022 (Extended) UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- The post functions are considered within the framework of the project “Enabling implementation of the Regional Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the management of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS)” which aims at initiating the implementation of regional Strategic Action Programme (SAP) of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS). The expert will be responsible to support UNESCO as agency responsible for the execution of the project providing technical and scientific support and help to secure coordination with the national experts, national team of experts, national and regional institutions of the beneficiary countries, the Joint Authority as well as UNESCO offices in the field. The expert will prepare technical and scientific reports at the request of UNESCO to show the advancement of the activities. He/She will prepare reports on the status of the activities every six months to be presented to the Project Steering Committee for their consideration including also considerations about any delays or difficulties if these arise during the implementation of the project so that appropriate support and corrective measures can be adopted. As decided by the beneficiary countries the Project Manager is selected from among candidates other than the host country. **WORK ASSIGNMENTS** -------------------- In particular, the Project Manager will: - Support UNESCO in the implementation of the project activities. - Develop with national experts and national authorities of the beneficiaty countrires annual work plans based on the multi-year work plan. - Coordinate project activities and reporting activities, - Prepare all needed reports and summary reports to be presented every six months to the Steering Committee representatives of the authorities of the beneficiary countries and of the NSAS aquifer Joint Authority. - Secure coordination with all project partners, and with the international and national experts hired by UNESCO - Coordinate with the representatives of the Joint Authority national offices for the implementation of the project activities. - Provide assistance on the gathering of information, the updating of the project database and the drafting of support material in liaison with UNESCO at Headquarters and in the UNESCO field offices in the project beneficiary countries. - Provide all necessary information to the UNESCO administrative staff for the preparation of the administrative formats for the organization of meeting and travels of the project involved experts. - Provide support for the preparation of training workshops, webinars, training material and data collection. **CONTRACT PERIOD** -------------------- Initial contract Duration 11 months **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Building partnerships (M) Driving and managing change (M) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Leading and empowering others (M) Making quality decisions (M) Managing performance (M) Strategic thinking (M) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- Education University degree (Bachelor or equivalent degree) in the field of hydrogeology, water resources management / engineering. Work Experience - At least 10 years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the field of groundwater resources and water resources management, hydrology and water resources research, - Experience of the management of groundwater resources development and/or water services projects in practices; - Working experience in hydrology, hydrogeology and water resources planning for development and for international scientific cooperation, particularly with international water resources programmes; - Experience in managing groundwater related projects in one of the four beneficiary countries of the Project (Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Chad) - At least 10 years of experience in implementing and managing scientific operational projects/programmes. **Skills and competencies** - Strong conceptual, analytical and organizational skills. - Ability to maintain effective working relations within a multicultural environment, to establish good working relations with external partners and to work effectively within a team; - Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills, including solid drafting capabilities. - Managerial competencies - Good IT Skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc..). **Languages** - Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of French (or viceversa). Very good knowledge of Arabic. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- **Education** Relevant studies and publications in the field of groundwater research and management. **Work Experience** Work experience with water-related specialized agencies of the UN system and/or professional NGOs and/or organizations for international technical cooperation. **Skills and competencies** Working experience within the UN system or an international organization/institution. **Assessment** An assessment exercise by interview may be used in the evaluation of candidates. **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
