You have:
- An Advanced university degree (Master's) or higher in social sciences, geography, statistics, or related disciplines with GIS and data visualization.
- At least 8 years in research and statistics, with strong experience in data visualization and using geospatial data.
- Strong experience with ArcGIS software.
- 4 years of experience in an information management function.
- Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
- Must be familiar with computer skills: Kobo toolbox, Power BI, Tableau, Python, RStudio, STATA, SPSS, QGIS or ARCGIS, Databricks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with tight deadlines, take initiative, be pro-active and work in a multi-cultural environment.

UNICEF is seeking services of a geospatial data specialist to carry out the activities necessary to support the analysis and visualization of UNICEF results data. This consultancy is aimed to strengthen the geospatial data management function in LAC RO and the use of data for planning and programme response in emergencies.

How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the UNICEF Regional Humanitarian Monitoring Specialist, the geospatial data specialist will be responsible for assisting in provision, acquisition, and analysis of geospatial data. In close coordination with UNICEF data analytics unit in HQ and the WASH area in LAC RO, the geospatial data specialist will support the regional roll-out of ArcGIS and implement the UNICEF LAC RO preparedness and response platform.
Also, it is expected the consultant to present technical information and findings easily understood by the programme sectors and the management, such as data visualization, mapping, and narrative writing.
Specific Tasks:
The main responsibilities and tasks are outlined below:
- Support the timely preparation, maintenance, and provision of geospatial information in support of the LAC RO.
- Collect, process, and analyze geospatial data, create, and update geodatabases into the preparedness platform.
- Harmonize the geodatabases for the sub regions at admin level 2, including information on population to estimate risk of exposure and potential population in needed.
- Produce information products, such as maps, infographics, charts, etc.
- Participate in data collection activities using geospatial analysis.
Assist in drone imagery acquisition and preparation for analysis.
Expected Results:
- Organize the geospatial data in UNICEF ArcGIS system at admin level 2.
- Implementation of the preparedness and response platform based on geospatial data for pre-crisis and in-crisis analysis, including the metadata for data layers, and an operative/methodological guide.
- Integration of different humanitarian data sources in a data repository based on ArcGIS.
- Recommendations on implementing and using drone imagery.
- Monthly activity log with the activities, type of support, date and time spent for each task specified clearly.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Administrative details:
Supervision: The regional Humanitarian Monitoring Specialist, will provide quality assurance and oversight for the consultant’s work with substantial feedback on the quality of the work.
Workplace: Home-based. No travels are involved in this consultancy

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
Duration of contract: This contract is expected to start on November 2022 with an estimated duration of 6 months.
Insurance: The selected consultant must demonstrate a proof of medical insurance prior to the beginning of the consultancy and must be valid for the entire duration of the contract. In duty stations where UNICEF provides medical evacuation, the medical insurance that the contractor holds should include provisions for medical evacuation.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment.
