Overview

Develop and implement gender transformation plans in health and nutrition sectors

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Masters) in a discipline relevant to the position such as Gender Studies, Public Health, International Development, etc.
  • Eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience, especially with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the area of international development, gender equality, with a demonstrated track record in accountability and reporting for gender equality results.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Substantive, technical, programme or research skills in gender equality in one or more key issue areas.
  • Experience in programme/project management skills, along with the ability to synthesize.
  • Ability to summarize, analyze and communicate diverse evidence and information from a wide range of sources.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to write succinctly and clearly in French.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to varied audiences and work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation.
  • Experience working with UNICEF COs or other UN agency at the country level.
  • Fluency in English.

Gender expert for a consultancy assignment with UNICEF DRC

Work Assignment Overview

Tasks/Milestone:

  • Use existing country programme documents and research to develop and support the implementation of the Operational Gender Transformation Plans for the programme and the whole health/nutrition/wash Programme to ensure the sustainability of activities after 2021
  • Successful implementation of gender priorities across all sectors, including tracking results and monitoring technical progress
  • Support the Minister of Health (MOH) in strengthening data systems and collection and accountability mechanisms to monitor and evaluate progress on gender results
  • Help identify immediate training requirements and conduct these training to accelerate implementation
  • Support the engagement of women and adolescent girls in the sustainable latrine and affordable design, manufacture and sell at scale in the Nsele heath zone
  • Prepare a consolidated report for the country highlighting key results, challenges, and next steps for the sustainability of no more than ten pages. Additional programmatic assets could be annexed

Deliverables/Outputs:

  • Transformative Operational Plans
  • A detailed consultancy report submitted at the end of every month, summarizing key actions taken regarding the work areas, key findings, recommendations, and actions points for the next one-month period
  • Gender data and indicators
  • Capacity Building Plan, and the start of training
  • List of women’s and youth enterprises/economic groups supported by the project
  • Final submission of consolidated report

Qualifications required:

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • Eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience; especially with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the area of international development, gender equality, with a demonstrated track record in accountability and reporting for gender equality results
  • Must demonstrate excellent writing skills.
  • Substantive, technical, programme or research skills in gender equality in one or more key issue area that is the focus of the programme of work/UNICEF's Gender Action Plan.
  • Experience in programme/project management skills, along with the ability to synthesize; coordinate and connect various streams of work and to multi-task.
  • Ability to summarize, analyze and communicate diverse evidence and information from a wide range of sources.
  • Excellent communication skills, including an ability to write succinctly and clearly in French.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to varied audiences and to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation.
  • Experience working with UNICEF COs or other UN agency at the country level, an asset.
  • Fluency in English an asset.
