Duties and Responsibilities I. Background The annual UN Country Results Report showcases the work of the United Nations Country Treams (UNCT) under the leadersip of the Resident Coordinator and the UN’s system-wide contribution to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its primary audience rests at country level, and will be shared with and presented to the national Governments. It will also be shared with other development stakeholders at the country level, and will inform other mandated reports at regional and global levels, including the annual report of the Chair of the UNSDG to the Economic and Social Council on the UN Development Coordination Office.

II. Scope of Work

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) is seeking the services of an individual graphic designer to deliver graphic design and layout services to enhance the quality and readability of two major communications materials - United Nations Annual Results Reports for Mauritius and Seychelles in print and electronic versions. The consultant will report to RCO team leader and will work closely with the UNRCO Communication Officer. The consultant is responsible for ensuring all products are in full compliance with the UNDCO branding and style guide, as well as the United Nations Country Report Guidelines for United Nations Country Teams.

The consultant will be responsible for the following: - Design, layout and format publications for each country (25 double-sided pages, 50 pages in total) – print, for website and electronic versions - taking into account UNDCO branding guidelines, and branding requirements of other donors/partners, as needed - Design and create illustrations, artwork, maps, tables, charts, and other graphic elements for the reports - Design and create associated social media visuals and cards to be used to support and promote the publication of the reports - Edit and utilize infographics using supplied data to present core messages and organize complex information into visual representations - Ensure that the final output(s) for the communication product will be the final web-ready and print-ready version and collaborate in ensuring smooth printing processes.

For each agreed communication product assigned the contractor will:

  • Design and layout the assigned communication product
  • Submit the preliminary layouts for discussion with UNRCO
  • Revise the selected layout as discussed with UNRCO
  • Submit a draft to UNRCO for proofreading (up to 5 rounds of corrections to be covered for each ARR; and 3 for social media cards and e-template)
  • Ensure all corrections have been inserted
  • Make final corrections to electronic file
  • Obtain a final sign off from UNRCO before submitting electronic files to the printer
  • Prepare the electronic files for the printer
  • Create PDF from final electronic file for UNRCO Web posting
  • Prepare e-reports using UN provided e-report template

    Qualifications/special skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in communications, journalism, international relations, fine arts, or related fields is required. Minimum of 4 years of combined and relevant experience in graphic design, in communications for development organisations, including experience in the preparation of publications, infographics are required. Strong portfolio of work showcasing design skills, including typography, layout, color theory, etc. (as demonstrated by samples submitted with application) is required Experience in illustrations and other wide variety of products related to the field of work is required. Experience in working with different types of design software and in sourcing photos is a strong asset are desirable. Previous work experience with the UN System on communications is an asset. It is desirable that the candidate should hold a license for all the software being used and has access to functional hardware to deliver on the tasks to be allocated.

    Languages Fluency in oral and written English is required.
