Based on the assessment of the key cultural heritage sites, MoTA has recently developed the national guideline for the presentation and interpretation of cultural heritage sites in Egypt. MoTA will refine this guideline with the technical assistance of UNESCO, produce a manual for its implementation in consultation/training with site managers, and produce the information panels at the pilot priority sites in Egypt in cooperation with UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States in Cairo. **WORK ASSIGNMENTS** -------------------- Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States in Cairo and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialists for Culture, the Individual Consultant will produce a **Manual for the implementation of the MoTA guideline on the presentation and interpretation of cultural heritage sites in** Egypt in English or Arabic for use of MoTA staff and site managers. The objective of this Manual is to provide MoTA site managers with practical guidance on the presentation and interpretation of their respective cultural heritage sites in compliance with the MoTA guideline to promote the heritage sites in Egypt in coherent manner, thereby enhancing its identity and brand as a place for intercultural exchange and sustainable tourism. In this regard, the consultant shall: Long Description ---------------- - Review the assessments (in Arabic) on the presentation/interpretation of heritage sites in Egypt conducted by the site managers under the coordination of MoTA recently as well as the existing MoTA Guideline (in Arabic) for the Presentation/Interpretation of Cultural Heritage sites in Egypt. - Based on the above, draft a Manual for the Implementation of the MoTA Guideline for the Presentation/Interpretation of Cultural Heritage Sites in Egypt in Arabic or English and submit it to UNESCO for feedback. **The Manual covers the following**: \* Guidelines for the Presentation and Planning of Cultural Heritage Sites and museums to the Public in Egypt. \* Principles for Interpretation and Presentation. \* Technical tools for Heritage management. \* MoTA graphic standards and logos (The logo block, Logo block with full text, Use of secondary and combined logos, etc.) Long Description ---------------- \* Examples of applications (brochure, booklets, publications, stationaries, PowerPoint presentation, banners, websites, merchandising, exhibitions, etc.) \* Standards of visitor centers. \* Elements of visitor services including but not limited to site interpretation plan, sunshades, seats, visitor center, toilets, visit trail, accessibility for special needs (auditory, visual, physical and intellectual) \* Principles of museum education) \* Highly recommended and durable materials for indoor and outdoor signage, height, font size and type. \* Case studies and best practices. \* UNESCO World Heritage logo \* Protocol for approval - Integrate UNESCO feedback and present the updated draft Manual at an **online participatory training or in blended way** with the participation of approximately **10 MoTA site managers and professional staff (MoTA confirms targeted number of trainees).** - Training will be conducted in Arabic or English, and ZOOM interpretation in English/Arabic might be arranged when needed. - Update the draft Manual based on the discussions and feedback obtained at the above consultation/training and submit it to UNESCO for feedback, - Finalize the draft by integrating UNESCO feedback and submit the final version of the Manual in Arabic or English **(to be translated)** to UNESCO for approval based on MoTA endorsement. - In line with UNESCO’s priority on gender equality, the Individual Consultant is expected to integrate a gender perspective in undertaking this assignment and apply gender-mainstreaming concepts whenever feasible. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **CONTRACT PERIOD** -------------------- 3 months (15 September – 15 December 2021) **Deliverables:** **Deliverables** **Timeline** 1 Draft Manual 30 September 2021 2 Final version of Manual 15 October 2021 **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- - At least Master degree in Heritage Management, Tourism Management or related field. - Demonstrable subject matter technical expertise with a minimum 10 years of professional experience in the promotion and enhancement of cultural heritage sites through visitor services activities and tourism promotion. - Work Experience portfolio and any supporting materials (at least 5 projects). - Knowledge of and skills in developing policy, strategy, guideline, manuals, tools and resources for heritage site presentation and interpretation. - Fluency in oral and written in English or Arabic. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- - Previous experience in working with UN agencies and/or UNESCO (related to World Heritage sites). - Member ICOM and/or ICOMOS. **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
