  1. Purpose of consultancy

    To recruit an emergency communications consultant to provide technical support in responding to COVID 19 and other health emergencies within the overall CRP’s vision.

  2. Background The mission of the CRP Department is to strategically support and oversee all communication and resource mobilization activities in the region (including regional and country offices), build strategic alliances and partnerships, and manage external relations. The Department manages WHO/EMRO's relationship with the international community by contributing to the positioning of the Organization's regional health priorities into the agenda of the international community and in positioning the Organization to attain technical and strategic recognition within the regional and global settings.
  3. Deliverables

     Develop 1-2 emergency communications products per week, including success stories, press releases, feature stories or other communications materials related to COVID-19 and other major health emergencies in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

     Develop text for video scripts, infographics, and social media cards related to COVID-19 and other major health emergencies

     Review or edit 2-3 products per week developed at country level and regional level to make sure they comply with global and regional public communications standards and WHO style

     Review or edit all emergency materials and documents of the emergency communications department

     Coordinate and implement communications with various stakeholders (across EMRO, with other WHO offices and/or external agencies) as needed in capacity of communications officer

     Coordinate with design, Arabic and French translation, as well as web and social media colleagues, on original or assigned work

  4. **Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:** University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or equivalent university degree in a related field.

    Experience: From 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in crises and emergency communication, print, broadcast media or interactive digital media. International experience is mandatory.

    Skills/Knowledge:  Strong written communications in English.  Proven ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information.  Proven skills in the development and implementation of communication/media products and tactics showcasing the organization's work and impact.  Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to achieve multiple deadlines.  Demonstrated Knowledge or understanding of WHO mandate and goals in the emergency incident management context.  Proven Knowledge of public health sector and issues.

    Languages and level required : Expert competency in English language

  5. Location On site: WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Cairo, Egypt.

  7. Remuneration and budget (travel costs are excluded): a. Remuneration: Payband level B b. Expected duration of contract: 6 months
  8. Medical clearance The selected Consultant will be expected to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work.

The Consultant shall be solely responsible for withholding and paying any taxes, duties, social security contributions and any other contributions which are applicable to the Consultant in in each location/jurisdiction in which the work hereunder is performed, and the Consultant shall not be entitled to any reimbursement thereof by WHO.
