This position sits with the Web Editorial team within the Digital Strategy Section (DSS) in the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy. The Digital Strategy Section comprises Web Editorial, Social Media News and Campaigns, Digital Governance and Platforms teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, the Digital Strategy Section draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation, and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling.

The Digital Strategy Section is also responsible for the build, management, and maintenance of global website properties, as well as providing support to Country and Regional (field) Offices to maximize their use of global web platforms in their communications activities. This role is instrumental in ensuring UNICEF’s global website is updated and provides audiences with multilingual content related to programmes, campaigns, and press releases.

How can you make a difference?

DSS seeks to hire a Digital Web Producer to provide the quality production of website pages in five languages, and to support quality assurance and testing on platform features, throughout the UNICEF.org digital ecosystem.

Scope of Work:

Web Production

  • Aid the Web Editorial (in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Chinese) teams by producing web pages, press releases and sections in the UNICEF.org Drupal CMS according to UNICEF’s editorial standards.
  • Produce document pages and link them to programmatic pages.
  • Triage web updates requests, obtain necessary approvals, and execute necessary changes.
  • Produce infographics, quizzes and other editorial content as directed.
  • Produce sample pages for use by other CMS users for the inspiration gallery and other use cases.
  • Perform redirects, replace broken links, and other technical tasks within the unicef.org Drupal CMS.
  • Build out special features on the CMS, assist in finding appropriate multimedia material, and ensure compliance with the UNICEF style guide and brand book.

Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Perform Quality Assurance and formal testing (User Acceptance Testing) of product releases, new features, redirects, and other technical tasks within the UNICEF.org Drupal CMS.
  • Provide detailed reports on the results highlighting any bugs, or any other red flags.

Reporting Requirements

  • Weekly status reports on all tasks submitted by updating a collaborative Trello board.
  • Weekly calls with supervisor.
  • Technical reports for sanity checks through a platform specified by the Platforms and Governance team.

  • Remote-based.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Information Technology, or similar fields; 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Expert level experience in the Drupal CMS.
  • A minimum of [5] years of relevant professional experience in enterprise digital platform work.
  • Successful track record building pages with a user-focus, utilizing UX/UI to enhance the experience and flow of the information.
  • Experience working with multilingual sites is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to follow editorial and brand guidelines.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA (APPLICATIONS WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA):

Each Proposal will be evaluated against a weight allocation of 80% for the technical proposals and 20% for the commercial proposal. The total maximum obtainable is 100 points. The minimum acceptable technical score is 49.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The Consultant is fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, such life, health, and other forms of insurance covering the term of the Contract as he or she considers appropriate. The Consultant is not eligible to participate in the life or health insurance schemes available to UNICEF and United Nations staff members.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

IMPORTANT – G4 Visa is only valid if the consultant will reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the assignment. It is illegal to apply and obtain a visa for consultants who do not intend to reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the consultancy assignment.

FEE

Requests for services under an individual contract requires that the consultant indicates their all-inclusive fees (including lump sum travel and subsistence costs, as applicable) for the services to be provided. When submitting their bid, the consultant is also advised to take into consideration as part of their bid for the assignment the cost of health insurance and/or photographic, video-graphic equipment if such equipment is needed to complete the deliverables of the assignment.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
